C 2 QJ C 2 U Mm The Board of Education is the governing body of the School District and derives its powers from the California Constitution, the State of California Education Code, the California State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, and the provisions of the Charter of the City of Berkeley. The boundaries of the Berkeley Unified School District and the City of Berkeley are conterminous. The Board of Education consists of five School Directors, each of whom has the right to vote on all questions coming before the Board. To be eligible for the office of School Director, a person must be a citizen of the United States, at least twenty-one years of age, and a resident of the City of Berkeley. The Board of Education has entire control and management of the public schools in the City in accordance with the Constitution and general laws of the State, and is vested with all the powers and charged with all the duties pro vided by the Berkeley City Charter and by the general laws of the State for City Boards of Education. The Board of Education meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:45 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Berkeley Public Schools Administration Building at 1414 Walnut Street. All citizens are welcome to attend these meetings. 6
