PRinCIPRL’S [RESSRGE HIGH SENIORS —SORRY TO LOSE YOU When you entered the High School three years ago, I wrote, Glad to Meet You. If you will look over your 1946 L-IO handbook, you will find the complete message. Well, at last you have finished High School. You have reached the minimum standards of education as required by law in California, and what you do. and where you go from now on, will be of your own choosing. Some of you will be wondering whether or not it will pay to go on and receive more education, and I believe I can assure you. from many years of experience, that education will not hurt anybody. You have made a fine record in our school, and although you are a small class, you have set an enviable record of leadership, and your activities have been the most succss-ful of any Fall semester. The colored picture of your class on the frontispiece gives evidence of what this campus will soon be, with our beautiful Little Theater, our marvelous big Auditorium, and the Memorial Square between the Auditorium and the Academic Building. We will have one of the most beautiful and modern high school campuses in California. I trust that each of you will return many times to see and hear and enjoy the programs which will be presented by our own students and the world renowned artists who will be scheduled to appear. Congratulations on your past successes and best wishes for your future. Your '49er Principal, Elwin LeTendre Jan. 1950

FOREWORD As time passes, the recollections of days gone by grow dim and things that are happening in the present tend to take their place. Therefore, it is good to keep special records of past happenings in order to refresh our memories. Olla Podrida is an excellent example of just such a record. It would be hard to find any substitute that would refresh the memory as well as the Pod does. That is why we of the Pod Staff have done our best to make this book outstanding. We hope that you will find it of continued interest, and as a source of lasting enjoyment. In the years to come, the Pod will be a cherished book in your library. It will unfold the pleasant recollections of your days in Berkeley High School. You will enjoy thumbing back through the pages, recognizing old friends and recalling happy experiences. So guard this book well, as it will be a golden treasure to you in the years to come. Ken Porter
