- FOREWORD a IN LINE with the constant improvements in the curriculum and administration of ' - — - ' Mhe Berkeley High School, the Pod Staff for the Fall of ' 41 is endeavoring to improve our yearbook accordingly. We have made two major changes for your approval: the introduction of a follow- McCuiiagh able theme, and the addition of color. We have attempted to take two students. Bob and Betty Berkeley, through a school day which, being more than typical, is to all intents and purposes all-inclusive. The color has been added primarily to stimulate interest and to hint the possibilities of a new era in Berkeley High yearbooks. We sincerely hope that this issue of the Olla Podrida will lead to the increased inter- est in and budget for future Pods . ALVIN HAMBLY, JR. Editor. IN MEMORIAM EDGAR ALLEN MOFFETT TEACHER AND FRIEND

90034l)J Photo by TOM KNIGHT POD DEDICATION THIS TERM we wish to dedicate our Pod to a man who gives most graciously of himself, his time, and his experience to the students of Berkeley High. For twenty- three years he has guided our paths and blazed our trails through the deep, ever- green forest of music. Five times he has produced first division concert bands in state-wide competition. He has, term after term, turned out a marching band of which we are justly proud. His excellent direction and coordination of our orchestra have rounded out innumer- able assemblies, variety shows, operettas and graduations. Our many successful small ensembles and soloists would have missed the mark but for his help. In those of us fortunate enough to have been under his training he has inspired the ideals of good sportsmanship, precision, and constancy. To those who will listen, his subtle good humor and his generosity can teach much more: faithfulness, loyalty, and humility. With wisdom and clever psychology he is offering us knowledge rather than book- learning— and we like it. Mr. Earl Morton, we salute you. ALVIN HAMBLY, JR., Editor.
