LIEUTENANT coMMANDEn RICHARD C. AVRI T, U.S. NA VY Born in Tilamock, Oregon, on February 18, 1932, Lieutenant Commander Richard C. AVRIT graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy as an Ensign in June 1953. From 1953- 54 he was assigned to the Destroyer USS GEORGE K. MACKENZIE CDD 8365 as Fire Control and Secondary Battery Officer. He then served aboard the Frigate USS WILLIS A. LEE CDL 4D from 1955-57 in several billets: Electronics Officer, Navigator, and Combat Information Center Officer, LCDR AVRIT attended the Navy Post graduate School at Monterey, California, where he received his Master of Science degree in Engineering Electronics in 1960. He then assumed command of the USS SUMNER COUNTY CLST 1148D. From 1963-66 LCDR AVRIT WHS HSSIBTIK-Id to the Key West Test and Evaluation Detachment of the Operation Development Force where he Served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Evaluation and Project Officer for the Navy's advanced and sophisticated ANfSQA-26 Sonar' AVRIT reported aboard the BERKELEY in December, 1966, to begin his tour as Executive icer.
