'The oldest road in town was the Schraalenburgh Road, once called King's Highway and now Washington Avenue. On Schraalenburgh Road stood the old stone house lpictured abovel which was then used as a tavern. About the year 1907 the old stone house was demolished, and a frame dwelling house was erected on the site a little to the southwest of the intersecting roads. ln l923 the property was acquired by the Bergenfield Board of Education and the house was moved in order to pro- vide for the erection of the Harding School which, with recent additions, has become our Junior- senior high school building, 4: I. Despite the wrong directions from the upper classmen we managed to find the right stairways to the right classes, thus beginning our Freshman year. Many sunny days were spent at school, while we thought of our class trip to Rye Beach, which, by the way, was on a rainy, dismal day. But in spite of the weatherman everyone ate, laughed, and had a good time. Sunday best took the place of skirts, blouses and dun- garees on a warm spring evening, when the Freshmen attended their first dance. Much to our surprise graduation was upon us-pins were turned and voices rang out with, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. We all felt mighty proud to be going into our Sophomore year. Our first dreaded experience as Sophomores was entering the Biology class and looking eye to eye at a frog, with scissors CLASS We, the Graduating Class of l954, being of sound mind and body, do hereby set our hand and seal to this last will and testament dated June, 1954, and do hereby bequeath the following: Mitzie Rodriquez, Jackie Kuhrt, Ray Warch, and Bobby Frederick empty their parking spaces for Jerry Bumbaco, George Scott, Wayne Gelder, and Tommy Frasco. Cora Horens appoints Joyce Saba to carry on her comments. Barbara Burr, Mildred Chiaradio, Lee Nestor, Pat Bor- chard, Kay Holland, Gloria Hines, Grace Dreyer, Margie Brand, and Jane Schreiber leave their capers and missions to anyone who can carry them out. To George Lyddon we leave the basketball hoop with the hope that he will fill it many times. Lennie Siter, blushing for the last time, turns his shyest title over to Mike Teresa. Nancy Bressler sweeps out room 206 and leaves it to next year's B-Hive editor. The departing cheerleaders leave their mascot, Mike, to next year's squad. Eena-Mai Franz and Barry Hiney leave their class leader- ship to Barbara Myers and John Hiney. Joan Ahern passes her dancing shoes on to Barbara Lewis. Dick Parker leaves his Skinhead to Bob Moyse. Barbara Gross, Barbara Nestor, and Margaret Kriete leave their well-dressed appearance to Nancy Anderson, Marcia Gottfried, and Jeannie Kenny. in our hands. With the year almost over we held a dance which was the final social high light. Saturday - cheering for the Mighty Mites was one of our favorite pastimes in our Junior year. Long rehearsals and sore throats brought forth a great play, Best Foot Forward. The show case by the music room was the hangout of large groups deciding upon which ring they wanted to bring them into their Senior year. The long awaited moment finally arrived when we could set an example as Seniors for the lower classmen. Many weeks were spent typing term papers along with rehearsals for our second successful play, Archie Andrews , working like mad on our year book, selling Christmas cards, getting ready for the Christmas dance, and hoping for a beautiful evening for our last social event, our Junior-Senior Prom. Though we may not be all together, our thoughts will always stray back to the fun filled days we spent at our Alma Mater. WILL Billy Schnellbaecher leaves his athletic fame to anyone with enough talent to carry it on. Dotty Knowles and Gene Wolf leave their romance to Valerie Vautin and Eddie Majestic. Clyde Kimes passes his smile to Larry Jaeger. Dolores Morrow leaves her voice to Carol Moses. Peter Colli leaves his antics to Tommy Weisse. Ruby Lind leaves her dimples to Joan McGary. Joan May, Nancy Carpenter, Pat Forkel, Connie Zitelli, and Shirley Verost leave their mischief to Dotty Hamilton, Edwina MacDonald, Emily Carlson, Gay Melvin, and Barbara Gustafsen. Tommy Kelly passes his 'best looking title on to George Scott.. Gloria Hines leaves Jofran Woods her long hair. Barbara Shaw and Dick Turrone leave the stage to Lor- raine Kilkenny and Lester Glaisek. Nancy Notorangelo and Joan Paccione leave their lasting friendship to Mary Anne Kovzan and Rosemary Lex. Seventh period history class leaves Mr. Hunter's room- freezing! Mrs. Hansen, Miss Rule, Miss McCann and Mr. Kennedy leave their headaches as class sponsors to Miss Bartley, Miss Feist, Mr. Hunter, Mr. Curry, and Mr. Beard. Finally, the seniors leave their memories in the halls with the hope that they will never be forgotten. 64 ' fb W g'QQw,f Q Q Mf as -f i +!edQ+5Q 'ig Q 2 2 Q 5 Q A .
