Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1962 volume:

, Ill F? ESENTATI ON We, the Senior Class of nineteen hundred and sixty two, with gratitude and thankfulness have compiled this yearbook as a monument to our hugh school years, filled with happiness, many fond memories and the benefits of education which have been so generously given to us through the patient under standing and perseverance of our parents and our high school administration and faculty. . This yearbook will remain forever as a living page of our lives and in the years to come will be looked upon with happy reminiscent thoughts. lt reflects a world of carefree living, a world of fun and one of friendly acquaintances but also one of meaning ful purpose. It is through education that we become good citizens youth which have been prepared to fulfill and accept the challenge of an ever changing world. We take great pride in presenting the Knight for l962. 2 ON How poor are they that have not patience! lShakespearel Seldom does a teacher enioy the widespread admiration and popularity in a school as does she. Her personal interest towards us and the school in general has set a splendid example for any and all to follow. Surely some of the success which we will enioy in the future can be attributed to her understanding and encouragement throughout our years at Bergen Tech. For these and many other reasons we the class of '62 affection- ately dedicate our yearbook to Miss Curral, our teacher, advisor, and friend. 3 M ESS Mr. Alexander Wyllie, President Mr. Orrie de Nooyer Mr. Archie F. Stephan, Administrative Principal TO OUR GRADUATES: Taking the physical effort out of living seems to have become the goal of every con- triver and innovator. Expanding our leisure time has become the objective of those who create machines or who guide the destinies of the people who produce our goods. While such purposes are attainable when The only consideration is the utilization of inanimate contrivances, the making of a man or woman requires a vastly ditterent ap- proach. Your diploma signifies that you have accomplished one of the requirements in your progression towards personal success. It signifies a body of information attained and mastered. lt signifies an objective determination to which you have dedicated your time and your effort. This has been accomplished through the expenditure of a great deal of time and energy on your part but it has taken the combined efforts of the government, the general public, and dedicated educators, to make this goal possible and to help you attain your purpose. For each of us it has been a privilege and pleasure to enioy these years ot training with you. Although we will miss you, we share in the feeling of pride for the successful completion of this port of your ultimate objective. All of us wish you well and know in our hearts that your present accomplishment tore- casts a future success and happiness as you continue to grow in knowledge and ability. Good luck and best wishes to you all. 6 lf- C0444 Mr. John K. Ossi, Vice-Principal How right was William Shakespeare in his phrase, Parting is such sweet sorrow. Sad though we may be to say good-bye to the Class of 1962, we have o real pride in know- ing that you are our best contacts with the world of industry. As a school we are looking forward to expansion, if we can be as certain that all our forthcoming classes are as worthy as the Class of 1962, our success will be a foregone conclusion. Best of success to you. 7 9 '-Pweo Mr. J. Norman Parris Guidance Counselor The Road Ahead reparation, thoughtful and careful, is required for a iourney that may extend over half a countryside and that may take three quarters of a century to complete. Such an un- dertaking demands this as the very minimum of effort you must make for yourselves. ffirmation and evidence of the care you have taken up to this time is in your hearts, your heads and your hands right now because you have finally achieved the goal you sought here - graduation from one area of training or another. To date, however, you have lived within the comparative security of these school walls. You have depended on your teachers to compliment you when you were right and to point out your short- comings when you were wrong. oadmaps are insurance that any sensible driver consults before setting out on a long, arduous journey after he has selected where he wants to go. They help him determine the best possible route to get there, how fast he must go in the time he has, and the possible detours he may encounter. esponsibility for reaching the destination that you select for yourselves now depends only on yourselves. Adulthood, and the loneliness of adulthood in the decisions you must make, are now thrust upon you whether you wont this, are ready for this - or not. gnis fatuus is a Latin phrase that should take on a deep meaning for you at this time. The hopes and dreams and aspirations of anyone are sacred to himself so long as he works to attain the attainable. Ignis fatuus means silly daydreaming, vague hopes with- out determined action. uccess, most of the time, only comes about for any man because he works for it. You choose the road that lies ahead for you. God speed you on your way! 8 TO THE CLASS OF 1962 You are now ready to embark on a new phase of your life. You will find many opportunities to expand on the knowledge and skills you have learned here. I am certain that you will recognize and grasp these opportunities so that you will con- tinue to advance in your chosen field of work. You take with you my very best wishes for your success.
