President Rev. Jansen Hartman . l f' ii l M:iFg'.'l'l:gE'5gl-,If ' l S 1 1 ! ' 1 Ye Are Witnesses Imprisonment and death was often the lot of the early Christians who were faithful in telling forth the message of salvation. Hence the word for witness was carried over into English as the word for martyr. Those to whom the words of the theme verse were spoken were eye-witnesses to the life, death and resur- rection of Jesus Christ. These men were told to preach repentance and remission of sins through faith in the crucified and risen Savior. The world was so hostile to the message that most of the early witnesses laid down their lives for the sake of the truth. The Class of 1961 by its choice of this theme has indicated a willingness to assume the responsibility and danger involved in witnessing. This is part of your subservience to the Lordship of Christ. We would remind you that the content and source of your mes- sage is God. You are not cast upon your own ingenu- ity to produce an opinion or to suggest a possible reasonable solution to the problem of human ills. The message you are to bear is the God-given revelation that He is creator, and grace giver through Jesus Christ. Your witness is to be a testimony and proof of the truth. The Lord Jesus made a promise to first century Christians that you also may receive, Be thou faith- ful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of lifef' QRevelation 2:lOj.
