FOOD MARKET THE BEREA COLLEGE FIRE DEPARTMENT The Berea College Fire Department has served the campus and the com- munity for many years. Its members are trained at the Fire School of Berea College. Each year, the two chiefs and a student fireman study the newest methods of fire control at the State Fire School in Lexington. Operational expenses are shared by the college and the town, with the cost to the town rarely exceeding $1200 a year. Because the College Fire Department stands ready to serve, fire insurance rates in Berea are lower than those in sur- rounding areas. Today, the Creamery buys over one million gallons of milk each year from nearby farmers and markets a variety of dairy products in Madison County and surrounding area. Through milk checks, payrolls, and purchases, it also adds nearly a half-million dollars annually to the local economy. The Berea Creamery thus serves the Berea community as both good neighbor and good business partner.
