This sixty-five bed hospital serves a rural area with a population of over 30,000. Last year 386 babies were born in the hospital. Two well qualified surgeons on the staff took care of general and orthopedic surgery, performing 730 operations. An average of two accidents are cared for eachday. Over 22,000 services were recorded in the out-patient service last year. The Berea College Hospital serves all the community regardless of race or creed. Compliments of BEREA COLLEGE Bakery Laundry College Stores Waterworks Creamery Electric NEW STREET LIGHTING FOR CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY In 1905 Berea College began to generate electricity for campus buildings, The first electric plant was so small that electricity was not available for pri- vate dormitory rooms nor private homes, noteven for the president'shome. Ten years later, the supply of electricity was increased. It was a great event when two campus street lights were installed to relieve the inky darkness of the high- way. Now the newly installed mercury-arc lights turn U.S. Hwy. 25 into Berea's Broadway stretching from Haiti Road and Chestnut Street to Estill and Ky. Route 1016. Additional lights will be installed on highways and streets in the future. The new 400 watt mercury-arc lights, placed on poles which are 35 feet high, assure the best possible lighting for the number of lights installed.
