Senior class Chimes. 275789 dedication We dedicate the ' 67 CHIMES to President Francis S. Hutchins. We are honoring him, of course, but we are also honoring the kind of man he is and the qualities that are his, qualities that are worth close con- sideration and emulation. Our President is a man who believes that convictions and ideas are more valuable than material things. He believes that the future of a nation, or a state — or a community — is decided finally by what goes on in the minds of its people. He assumes that a man ' s color or the slant of his eyes does not determine his right to develop into whatsoever he is capable of developing into. He is, in other words, MR. BEREA, in our eyes. We dedicate a book; he has dedi- cated a life. We hope to emulate him. 1 01 THIS SPOT M THE STUDY OF JOHN G.FEI WERE HELDTHET iS|M£CHpTOPLII WITH - mhim MD FAITH BERE ' A$dUIGE 1855-1859 FIRST -$IGNB$ OF THE €0lSTIpfiflN . f :,«;- 9 BEREA COLLEGE — THE WORLD IS OUR TERRITORY APPALACHIA, OUR HOME WE CAME SEEKING EDUCATION FOUND LIFE AND STOOD STILL IN A WHIRLING ISOLATION. Mr. Pearson has given a personal touch; he has made a place where students felt free to go to cry, to laugh, to share one ' s pride in an accomplishment. And through all of this informality, Mr. Pearson remained a person of ageless dignity and authority. His qualities of an open door, an open ear, and an open heart have led quickly to success and achievement. The rare gift of always bringing out the best of one fits Mr. Pearson in the true definition of a friend. 168 pounOation schooL dean ' s Roy N.
