A Tribute to OUR ALMA MATER For over one hundred years you have provided a low cost, Christian education for the youth of the Southern Appa- lachians. You have had good years and bad years but you have continued to expand at all times. Although you are a small liberal arts college which has sur- vived and prospered with the aid of your man} friends and Alumni, you have kept your education abreast of the times. Now you rank among the best. Because the members of the Class of ' 58 have only been with you for four years, they may have failed to fully appreciate your progress. However, they have noticed the major changes in your physical struc- ture such as the William H. Danforth Industrial Arts Building, the Seabury Dor- mitory, the plans for the Student Activities Building, the destruction of the obsolete buildings, and the repair of the older one, and the many little changes which were difficult to recognize. Although they have been interested in your physical structure, they were most concerned with the success of your graduates. You have not failed in continually producing some of the best scholars in all your various departments. Another important realization of the Class of ' 5 8 is your growing recognition of the Association of Berea College Students. The official organization of your student body has shown that it wants to help your Administration make you an even better institution for work, study, and play. Your students have shown that they are capable of accepting responsibility in all areas of campus life. May this always be their goal. Now that our undergraduate studies are over, we are prepared to leave you but we will not forget the opportunities you gave to us. The Class of ' 5 8 and the entire Association of Berea College Students sin- cerely hope that you may always continue to educate the finest students in the world! Allen Sutphin 28
