Give me the ground-mole with his baby-claws; Red fox so free he knows no bounds nor huts. Give me the night — the wail of soft guitars And mountain lovers walking under stars. Give me the mountain daisy on the slopes; Give me the nettles lined in sticky ropes. Give me the night time and the quivering leaf; Give me more Spring to live — Spring is too brief. That little pool of life men call a span; Thai pool of life allotted to each man. Ah give me life — the life that lasts forever Where night winds blow through willows by the river. Give me the violet beneath dead leaves Where Spring winds seep like water through sand sieves. The wail of Spring wind music is sweet heard, Much sweeter than a popping mockingbird. Give me more of this turbulent Spring youth. More of the shoemake ' s quick youth plastic growth. Give me more of the stable seeds to soweth In willowed lanes of glorious clouded youth. Give me forever all that is to me High starlit mountains to youth ' s certainty. — Jesse Stuart (Editor ' s note: No one can better speak for the mountains than Jesse Stuart. The dedication of this book to mountain territory is made more significant through Mr. Stuart ' s gracious contribution of Give Me Again The Spring and This Is The Schoolhouse.
