WILLIAM H. WALKER After eight years as head of the Department of Philosophy and Bible, William H. Walker retires with all that youthful energy of his seventy years into a private life of continued activity. Doctor Walker was born on March 12, 1864, in Flint, Michigan, the son of a dry- goods merchant. At the age of 19 he entered the University of Michigan. After his graduation there he enrolled in the Andover Theological Seminary. This seminary sent him to Germany Where he studied Philosophy at Strassburg. A linguist as well as a philosopher, this scholar has mastered the six languages of Greek, Hebrew, Latin, German, French, and Arabic. His pastorates have included three churches in Michigan and others in Kansas and Illinois. Colleges served by his teaching arc Beloit, Fargo College, and Northland College at Ashland, Wisconsin. As an author Doctor Walker has distinguished himself by writing two books: Five Minutes With Boys and Girls Congregation and What Shall We Think of Jesus? , the latter yet unpublished. The professor holds membership in Pi Gamma Mu and Phi Beta Kappa. He has received degrees as follows: Ph.D., Strassburg, Germany; D.D., Fargo; D.D., Chicago Theological Seminary. Never will the student who has learned to know and admire this man ever forget the meaning of a dynamic personal conviction of moral principle. With this conviction he has struck courage into the heart of the craven soul and admiring awe into the spineless liberal. His scholarly thoroughness, his artistic grasp of the aesthetic, his un- flagging sense of humor, have made him a philosopher beloved by his disciples. Doctor Walker, we can say no more than this: We wish for you a life which shall continue in the future to be as worthy and impressive as it has in the past.
