W 'rggn ECHO SOCIAL EVENTS Freshman Initiation The Sophomore class initiated the lfreshmen nf V124-25, September 2-lth, at an old empty house two and a quarter miles south ul llentonville. 'lhe lfreshmen met at the local depot and, lit-ing lilindfolderl, were escorted tu the house hy memlmers uf the upper classes. L'pon reaching the house they were given many surprises and complicated tasks In perform. These they did much In the amusement nf the upper class meniluers, faculty, and faculty guests. l.unch was served about 9:38. .Xll departed having enjoyed the occasion and the lfreshmen feeling like experienced high school students. -1.l2.XTH.X B1,L'12. Freshman Return Party The lfreshman class entertained the memliers uf the high school, the teachers, and their guests at the home uf Miss Grace Liurtis on Tuesday eve- ning, Hctoher l-lth. Old fashioned games were played and among the par- ticipants of the contest, llorace liellam won the hob for doughnuts and Mr. 1.. T. Stanford possessed the widest smile. ,Xfter these festivities all gathered around the lionlire and relished a wiener roast comhined with a marshmallow toast. This party was given for the high school in return for the lireshman Initiation. -YlOl.ET Mclililf. Farewell Party The Freshman class gave a lfarewell party in honor of Lawrence Rathfon. lt was given on the evening of lfeliruary 16th in the school gym. The persons present were the Freshmen and their guests. also the faculty and their guests. The affair was supervised by Mrs. Nettie Freeman, sponsor of the class. The gym, in the appearance of a japanese garden, made a very pleasing effect. Ribbon hows nf the class colors, green and white, were presented as favors. In harmony with the quaint japanese decorations, many old fashioned games, such as the Virginia reel, were played. These were enjoyed by all present. The party finally dispersed with many good wishes from the faculty and others to the Freshman class. -ELVA MASON. Sophomore Surprise Party The Sophomore class gave a very pleasant surprise party in honor of two of its memliers, 'Iohn Smiley and Leslie Baker, at the home of Donald Mason. Monday evening, March 23111. By the request of the History teacher the boys planned to go to Uona1d's home to make a cross-word puzzle. Upon arriving there they were very much surprised to find the Sophomores, Seniors and high school teachers with their guests were present. After the surprise, games and other entertainment followed. T H E E C H O TRACK AND FIELD Nineteen twenty-live showed a good come-out for Bentonville in the Track and Field Meet of the county. livans, our star runner, came up with three hlue rihhons as rewards from the ineet. Collier, another valuable nian. won two reds and a white for his school. Ilaker added a second place victory to the string. XYe are looking forward to Collier and Baker as valuable nien for the coming' season. The Track and Field Meet aniong the Fayette county schools was held at the Fairview school grounds, :Xpril 2-lth. llentonville won the contest by four points. T H E E C H O Basketball Banquet The mothers of the members of our basketball team uf l92-l-25 desired to honor the boys for the creditable work they had displayed this season. .PX two course supper was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Uzro Mason the evening of Xlarch 27th. Members of the team with their guests, the faculty, and the parents of the team were entertained. Toasts were given by the coach, Mr. Stafford, and the team, in which the boys expressed what basket- ball meant to them. The remaining hours were spent in dancing and playing games. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Senior Festivities The closing festivities of the school mark the passing of the Class of l925 from their final activities of public school life into higher institutions of learn- ing or into the broad field of service to the world. The -lunior-Senior Recep- tion, baccalaureate services, and commencement exercises we1'e iittingly ob- served by the Seniors and will no doubt be cherished in their memory long after they have left llentonville high school. The first uf these festivities was that of the -lnnior-Senior reception which was held Saturday evening, May 23rd, in the high school gym. lleautiful deco- rations transformed the playing court into a regular sylvan scene and the Senior colors, hlne and silver. were used in profusion. .X burlesque play to- gether with music were the diversions of the evening. Refreshments were served and some interesting toasts were given. On Sunday evening, May 24th. the baccalaureate services were held in the town hall. .-X most pleasing and instructive sermon was delivered. The commencement exercises, the final nmnber of the Senior activities, was held Tuesday evening, May 26th. The address was delivered by Rev. llcllichael, ofLiol1116I'SYill6, after which the Class of 1925 were presented with their coveted sheepskins for which they had been striving for the past four years.
