BASKETBALL Although the twelve girls wl1o met at the beginning of the 19-L1 basketball season were a bunch of greenics, they had one ambition-to rewin the championship title, which our school has held for a number of years. WVith this in mind, these girls practiced diligently eaeh night to build a new team. VVhen they finally met Millvillc, the first opponent, they surprised everyone by an overwhelming victory. From then on it was rough sledding, but the team, equal to the occasion, played hard and reached their goal. They came out at the end of the season with six victories and the Columbia County Girls' Outdoor Basketball Championship. SDCCER The Black and Orange, composed of all Seniors but one, showed good co-oper- ation through the whole season, even though they met twice with defeat. As the season started, the future was believed to be rather doubtful because seven of last year's regulars had been lost through graduation. The end of the first game gave support to these beliefs as the score was two to nothing in favor of Scott. This defeat spurred the team on to greater effort, but it was the destiny of Benton to fall into third place of the northern branch of Columbia County, thus keeping them out of the play-offs.
