A THE'ORACLE 27 THE SCHOOL LITERARY SOCIETIES The literary societies have had but two programs up until this date. This is mainly due to the Spanish influenza which raged more or less for the entire school year, but the programs which were given were of such excellence that the high standing which the school has attained 'in such pro- grams was easily upheld. Much credit is due Miss Robins, instructor in Music and English. May 2, a program was given and the proceeds used for the benefit of the Junior Red Cross. , The meeting for the election of oiiicers of each society was held on October 3. The societies were as follows: WEBSTER Gu y Everett, Pres. Gladys Edwards. V. Pres. Jarius Harrison, Sec. Roiber-t Hosler, Editor Grace Dresher Ruth Hartman Fran-cis Housewearth Pearl Mordan Cleo Roberts Harriet Shearer Jesse lYocun1 Guy Harrison Doyle lKnouse Alvin Lalulba-ch Paul Shannon Donald Smith Elizalheth Hess lvan Ash, Pres. 26 TI-IE ORACLE x ' ' TI-IE JUNIOR CONTEST Our annual Junior Contest in Expression was this year held in the Universal Theatre, Friday evening, February 14, by the class of 1920. It proved to 'be one of the most successful events in the 'whole 'history of the con- tests of our school. This contest is one of the most important affairs in the J'unior year. The following programme was rendered this year: Chorus, Welcome Home Laddie , ..,..,........ Q .....,. ., Junior Class Reading, Springtime a la Carte, O. Henry . . . . . Bessie Girton Reading, Call of the Wild, Jack London ....... . . . Russelshultz Reading, An Afternoon in a Hotel, J. K. Bangs . . . ........ Hilda Fritz Chorus. However the great value lay not in the prizes, 'but in the experience and training which each one received.
