CLASS OF 1966 As seniors we look back upon our happy years at B.C.H.S. We remember our first-day worries as freshmen, our first homecoming, our first Echo Carnival, our first Scarab, and our first grade cards. We made new friends who are now old friends. As sophomores we began making money toward our junior prom. As juniors we made more money through car washes, bake sales, and our junior play. Getting our class rings was exciting! Suddenly it was our last year; we were sseniors! There was the victorious homecom- ing game and the dance, the senior play, and the Junior-Senior Reception—all of these doubly exciting because of our senior status. Many of our class held responsible offices in schoo! organization. Senior members of the football and basketball teams, clubs, and music were offen vital to the succéss of the organization. Parting, we wish to thank all our teachers, counselors, coaches, and Mr. Genesio for their efforts in our behalf. We've taken our tests. It’s graduation! We leave high school life and face the adult world with high hopes. We say good-by but know that Benton Consolidated High Schoo! will always be a part of us! eens 9 id Woodland, vice-president; Denise Chancey, treasurer; Patty Jenkins, secretary; David LINDA ADAMS yec; FBLA; Hi-Tri 1, 2, 3, 4; French Club; rua 1, 2, 3, 4, treasurer 2, Board Mem- bet 3; JrSr. Reception Server, 1M ADKINS gacketball 1, 2, 3, 4; Track 1, 2, 3, 4; Pep club 2; Cross-Country 3, 4; Speech Club, chairman 3; History Club 3; YFC 3; Key Club 3, 4, secretary-treasurer 4. Our car wash in September was a financial success. In October our class ring committee chose round rings for the first time in many years. The Sadie Hawkins Dance was a moment to remember. The gym was beautifully decorated with corn stalks and pumpkins. Two juniors were chosen as Daisy Mae and Little Abner. In November many class members helped in making the class's homecoming float, “Thirst for Victory,” one of the most decorative in the parade. Because of our great foot- ball victory at West Frankfort, our class raffled off a foot- ball autographed by the team. December saw the begin- ning of our sale of the “World's Finest Chocolate.” Each junior sold candy to make this project our largest money- making campaign of the year. Our class is proud to have individuals who have dis- tinguished themselves during the year in the fields of lead- ership, historical essay, journalism, music, athletics, and economics. As Juniors we have experienced many exciting and memorable events, but all of us have many more aspira- tions for our senior year. The Sophomore Class worked many hours on their float, “Cage the Redbirds.” As sophomores we participated in more clubs and activities. We were in charge of the concession stand during the football and basketball season. We look forward to our junior year with great expectation. As upperclassmen we will meet new responsibilities and we hope we will be able to fulfill them. As departing sophomores we take with us the pleasant memories of the past year. CLASS OF 1969 We, the class of 1969, started our high school career as “Greenies” August 30, 1965. Most of us were appre- hensive until we became accustomed to our schedules and learned what was expected of us. We became acquainted with B.C.H.S. and then took an active part in various clubs, musical activities, and sports events. In October the following class officers were elected to direct our activities: Denny Jones, president; Pat Hig- yins, vice-president; Judy Webb, secretary; Debbie Doug- ponsors, Mrs. Hill and Mr. Glass tor helping us through this first year at Benton High. We have a feeling of “belonging” now and look forward to the next three years as upperclassmen. 73 74 Martin Adams John D. PREP TEAM This was the year that probably never will be equalled or surpassed. The 1965-66 Ran- gers accomplished everything that they set out to do in regular season play. The Ran- gers, seeded second in the Centralia Holiday Tournament, defeated Thornton of Harvey to capture first place. Later they captured the Quad City Tournament, remaining undefeated. They climaxed the season play by capturing the South Seven Conference title, the first in Benton’s history and went on fo finish the year undefeated. Each boy on the team brought an individual attribute that meshed with those of his team- mates: Jim Adkins’ smooth jump shots, Rich Yunkus’ stretch layins, Ken Payne's ball hawk- ing, Dave Woodland’s exceptional feeding, and Terry Heard’s ball-handling. Jerry Hoover and Bill Lowery provided reserve strength ’ nasty : when it was needed. The outstanding quality of the greatest team to wear the Maroon and White was un- selfishness. Each player seemed to think only of the team, and shots were constantly passed for assists. Congratulations are due to Coach Herrin for his tireless efforts in leading the Rangers to a perfect 25-0 record. 125 JIM ADKINS, Capt. DAVE.
