The team kept rolling with an easy win over Savannah, but lost a close decision with Lafayette. Benton came back to smoth- er Maryville but was shut out by Maur Hill at the coronation. The Central game was lost in the last few seconds and with it went the hopes of a tie for the city championship. From then on the Cards were unbeatable with easy wins over C. B., Park Hill and Lee's Summit. All in all the Cards had an outstand- ing season placing second in the M. Benton has had many basketball teams including two which received the honors of state champions, but this year's team must certainly stand out as one of the best. Coach Jim Modis has spent much time developing this excellent team and has worked long hours perfecting younger players so Benton will continue to have championship teams. He deserves all the honors that have fallen upon his team. This year's season started out great for the Cardinals with an early win in the Savannah Tournament and the team never slowed from this pace. Crowds have stood and applauded as the Cards pulled off unbelievable plays and continued to show the fine sportsmanship Benton has always displayed. Benton will have other good teams in the future but no one will forget the 1966-67 season.
