Tl1egTeaclvUsta ' The language department is comprised of the Latin and Spanish classes, both of which are offered for at least two years' study CSpanish III is offeredj . The first year of Latin provides the student with basic grammar, vocabulary, and knowledge of the language. In the second year, the emphasis is on translation From the translations, students gain a historical knowledge of Roman and Greek culture. Spanish I also provides basic knowledge and grammar. Spanish Il continues with grammar and also provides for more reading and conversation. The study of Spanish not only gives a speaking, writing, and reading knowledge of the language, but also fosters an interest in Spanish-speaking countries . This arrangement cuts down on quantity but it improves quality. i Teachers also call upon outside aids such as the LITERARY CAVALCADE, PRACTICAL ENGLISH, and the READERS' DIGEST. Members of our English department attended an English conference at Lawrence, Kansas, this' October for the third consecutive year. The general purpose of the English department is to raise the level of writing and speaking in all school activities and to promote interest in the important fields of modern communication. U 9 9 The Commercial Department offers a student a wide variety of courses from which he can establish a start in a business profession In -the advanced courses of the Commercial department students 7 7 have laboratory experience where I! ll Sarah Billingsley--B.S . they have on the job training in completing projects for the office and teachers. Here they learn to operate the various types of business equipment. Aside from teaching the every day business regulations the students are taught personal traits for the business world.
