. . .TofUseftlwPfwseub The mathematics curriculum has been planned with the general objectives--to provide a well- balanced course for students of varying abilities. To modernize courses by introducing new material, and to recognize the significance of the expanded applications of mathe- matics. Specifically, the program attempts to develop an understanding of the basic structure of mathematics, provides for the acquisition of manipulative skills and the oppor- tunity to apply these skills, and strives to promote an appreciation of mathematics as a part of general education and not solely a vocational or Tool subject. This arrangement cuts down on quantity but it improves quality. i Teachers also call upon outside aids such as the LITERARY CAVALCADE, PRACTICAL ENGLISH, and the READERS' DIGEST. Members of our English department attended an English conference at Lawrence, Kansas, this' October for the third consecutive year. The general purpose of the English department is to raise the level of writing and speaking in all school activities and to promote interest in the important fields of modern communication.
