L. K. Bowen Principal As administrator of Benton High School, Mr. Bowen shoulders many heavy responsibilities. He has held the title of Principal since 1958. He is continually searching for new ideas which will improve our school and serve the students better. His most important responsibility is the super- vision of the instructional program. During the summer, he is kepy busy planning appropriate schedules for the students. This program includes student counseling, faculty assignment and super- vision and continuous evaluation of their prog- ress. He studies the curriculum requirements specified by the State Department of Education and coordinates these requirements with stu- dents’ needs to provide a well rounded program of studies. In addition he is kept busy compiling statistics for complicated reports. Mr. Bowen confers with faculty and student committees, with the PTA, and city and state administrative groups. All of them find him pleasant, efficient, and eager to aid them in any way he can. L. K. BOWEN A. W. THEDINGA A. W. Thedinga Vice-Principal A man of many tasks is our Vice-Principal, Mr. Thedinga. The vice-principal’s job is one of great importance to both the faculty and student body. His main and most important duty is to try to help lighten Mr. Bowen's many responsibilities. In addition, he serves as Dean of Boys. With his seemingly endless patience, he has helped many to a better understand- ing of school life. Not to be forgotten is his direction of the athletic program. Working with the coaches, he purchases equipment, arranges home games, orders the busses, and makes other necessary arrangements. Also, he is the Student Council s]x nsor. With his assistance and direction, the Council promotes student welfare and serves as a link between student and faculty members. Benton is indeed fortunate to have such a hard working administrator. 29

Mr. Thedinga Although he is a very busy person, Mr. A. YV. Thedinga is always willing to help anyone who comes to him. He is a great help to those who recognize the fact that the vice-principal is there to help anyone who comes to him for assistance. Miss Wilson One of the most important people at Benton is the Dean of Girls, Miss G. Marion Wilson. Her time-consuming duties consist of checking on absentees, issuing leave permits, keeping attendance records, counseling girls, and teaching three citizenship classes. Her many responsibilities keep her going at a steady pace. But no matter how busy she is, she is always ready to give advice and encourage- ment when problems arise. Mr. Clark New to Benton this year is Mr. Don Clark, our counselor. He has quickly become popular among both the faculty and students. His many duties include keeping various student records, helping stu- dents arrange their schedules, and sponsoring FTA. He also serves as assistant football coach. 30
