WAH WAHL AN AWAH-1955 The Senior Class Benton High School FOREWORD To recall however briefly, “The glory that was Greece brings to mind not only the matchless legends of their gods and heroes but also their pre-eminence in the fine arts, their athletic prowess, their scholastic achievements. Through the ages the tradition of their accomplishments has stood as a sym- bol of what is noble and enduring in a changing world. (three) Administration • • • BOARD OF EDUCATION Standing: Messrs. G. L. Blackwell, supt.; H. C. Herschman; Alva F. Lind- say, attorney; D. W. Hopkins, vice-pres.; W. Fairleigh Enright. Seated: Mr. R. V. Blomfield, secy.; Mrs. John Wyeth, pres.; Mr. E. F. Garvey, Mrs. Paul Knepper. Hellenic culture was entrusted to tin care of its leading citizens whose duty it was to preserve revered customs, to develop ideas, and to organize knowledge. On this tradition the Hoard of Education bases its leadership in the training of St. Joseph youth for appreciative participation in intellectual endeavors. MR. GEORGE L. BLACKWELL Superintendent of Schools To Mr. Blackwell has been delegated the exact- ing task of developing all phases of the school sys- tem to achieve not only diversity but excellence. His contribution of time, ideas, and skill has done much to make ours an outstanding organization. (four) . . . Administration MR. YV. L. DAFFRON MR. LOWELL K. BOWEN MISS «. MARION WILSON Principal Vice-Principal Advisor to («iris The records of Greek intellectual grandeur that survive prove that all agreed on the cultivation of the mind by education in the arts and sciences, and of the body by athletic sports. These principles underlie the efforts of our Benton administrators to foster and enrich our school program. MR. W. L. DAFFRON Principal To seek to know the truth and to do one’s duty was the obligation of every citizen in the Hellenic state. In promoting such a philosophy Mr. Daffron has reached a high point of success in administra- tive leadership. (five) Jane C. Mauck B.S.; Commer cial James Modi B.A.; M. E. Senior Officers CLASS OFFICERS, SPONSORS— Left: Pres.,Bill Brooner; Sponsors, Miss Reardon, Miss Elliott, Mrs. Giddens; Vice-Pres., Peggy Gabriel. Not in photo: Miss Sellers, sponsor; Sheryl Mason, Secy. The outstanding accomplishments of the class of '55 can he attributed largely to the fine leadership given by their four faculty sponsors. Their eagerness and willingness to help are equalled only by the zeal of the class officers themselves. These fine groups with their never ending enthusiasm have given the class of 1955 a memorable Junior prom, and skating parties. And now in our last year, we can look forward to an outstanding senior day and commencement program under the direction of these capable leaders. CONCESSIONS CREW Left: Janis Jessee, Dale Sauter, Marvin Colburn, Ron- nie Meng, Ralph Sandlin. Carl Holzhauser, Ronnie Lane, Dorothy Davenport, June Ball. To the concessions crew, sponsored by Mr. Stinson, we wish to give special tribute, for without them this book could not be published. Though they were few in number, they were always Johnny on the spot” with good things-to-eat on sale at all the home football and basketball games. (eleven) Seniors...
