We realize the job is not easy. but in spite of that it is very important. lt is our hope that the whole student bodv will come to realize the importance of a school annual and. in doing so. cooperate more fully with our annual staff. I think we all agree that there are several reasons for publication of an annual. Among these are - 1. Teaches co-operation among student body and faculty. 2. Advertises the school to the public. 3. Gives historical record of happenings in school for one year. 4. Has emotional appeal. Each student has a specific record of what he did while in school. 5. Gives a record of friends to refer to in later years. 6. Contributes to unity and 'gspiritv of our school. As the years come and go we hope each of you will come to love our school and annual more. Sincerely. ff mlfwt, ' Kenneth O. Cook Howard Perrin Principal Superintendent goadataff ide . . . Long before the bavk to school hell rang . . . before our story for this book ever began . . . the nienibers of your annual staff began Work . . . planning. getting ready, dreaming up ideas to help make this book the best they could possibly con- ceive. Hundreds of hours of hard work at cluttered desks . . . taking thousands of pictures . . . planning layouts . . . splicing photographs . . . phone calls . . . meeting deadlines . . . it was all part of the job. Five days a week, plus many weekends . . . the walls of our Annual room rang with the shouts, laughter, and tears of many harassed and often frustrated staff members. . . . Co-Editors Neil lleachem and Norman Casey and faculty advisor Mrs. llay Steele were the main cogs that kept our yearbook machine moving. Busi- ness manager Ann Jones kept the books, and ably assisted Nancy Stirmon with the Administration section . . . PANTHER STAFF POSED eczcqgoanytdfzaaiaadqeaa . . . The Herculean task of photographing the stu- dents, teachers. and all the many items in our hook was handled hy the Class Editors: Charlotte Sewell. Alma Dooley. Lynn Euhanks. Sherry Springer, Sharon Jennings. Margaret l.ittle. and Cordon Spivey . . . Way hack in the summer, our advertis- ing section of Joyce White. Joyce Nelson, and Stephen O'Kelley did a miraculous joh of raising the much-needed money for making our hook the size that it is. Pud Floyd and Jean Holland shoul- dered the job of editing our organization section, while Jeanie Vlfright and Patsy Hester did a wou- derful joh in the feature department. Henry Brum- mett and Tom Brown filled the hill for our all- important Sports section. . . . The Panthers battled to a successful T-4 season record and were rated by the Arkansas Gazette as one of the most powerful AA teams in the state. Benton placed six players on the 22- man All-District Team and one player joined the AA All-State ranks. Coach Elbert Kizzia, in his ninth year as football coach at BHS, greeted thirteen return- ing lettermen and a squad of about forty' boys for the first practice on August 20.
