The Senior Class has edited and published this yearbook so that in the years to come it will serve to refresh in our minds and hearts memories of the dearest and happiest episodes of our lives. The Class of 1954 is honored to dedicate this edition of the Benecho to MISS MARY HARTMAN Teacher of English and Literature at Benton joint High School. Miss Hartman has not confined her interests to the English and Literature Departments, but has spent numerous hours composing and di- recting assembly programs. Long after other high school memories have faded, the memory of this sincere, distinguished teacher will remain. 2 H r .V. j . V'-i i' .. V4 - - . ,V , . I , 1 VQA, . ,W , '. . After being initiated by the Sophomores, we were full-fledged Bentonians, and we really enjoyed being so. To show our appreciation, we gave the Sophomores a Sadie Hawkins Day Return Party. Although we were a wayward flock, Dave Bowe, our president, led us safely through the school year which came to a cli- max with a picnic at Rocky Glen. C5 Sophomore Year. Breaking the tradition, we scared the Freshmen by initiating them during an assembly presented for the entire high school, but they enjoyed the party held that night, just as we enjoyed the Re- turn Party they gave us. Because of our successful bake sale, we carried into our junior Year a better than average sum of money. With a final burst of energy, our Sophomore Year came to a finale at Rolling Green. Another lady president, Yvonne Heath, was our choice. With little difficulty we became acquaint- ed with our new supervising principal, Mr. Pollock. A bake sale again added greatly to our funds. We ordered our class rings and eagerly awaited their ar- rival, nevertheless, many of the boys received only a parting glance at theirs. Then came junior Play time and Great Caesar's Ghost with its eerie se- ance. Our audience loved our friendly ghost and so did we. The month of May came and with it a night to remember--the Junior-Senior Prom. We chose as our theme, Hitch Your Wagon to a Star. However, the only stars that night were the ones suspended from the ceiling of the ball room. Out- side, the rain came down in torrents, and the thunder 5515. crashed, but everyone had a wonderful time. A picnic ' A D at Rocky Glen was our final gathering for that year. ll ff 21 sg .:?.i'eg, , 1 A i lf 1, :?f:'f1f-QP' 2 1 N Q .4 ,. 1 1 V' rg, . , , . ,v.l.'nQl Wifi 7 4 W s' - A any I Y-oi- . ,.4-- :.:.'v . After the first few weeks, we X x ' xxx settled down to business and elected class officers and the Yearbook Staff. To help finance our year- book, we converted ourselves to amateur salesmen and sponsored Prom Peanut Week by selling pea- nuts. Play practice kept us busy, and under the guid- ance of Mrs. McHenry, we successfully presented - 1 . 'il 0 Q ' our Senior Drama, So Help Me. With spring came May Day, then Class Night, and finally our long-awaited, joyful yet sorrowful, Commencement Exercises, and we bid our classmates a sad adieu. Although we were eager to begin our journey down new exciting trails, fond memories of friends and fun will linger forever.
