Page 18 H5 CLASS HISTORY Although we all have a heartfelt affection for school that has been the scene of so many happy memories, we are never entirely regretful when the time to leave draws near. lt is however in these last fleeting days that our minds race back to the time-it seems only yesterday-that we first climbed the stairs of our dear old Benton High. As Freshmen, we had to accustom ourselves to different hours, strange people and new systems. We put on a bold front but down deep in our hearts we were so fearful, that we jumped when the bells rang and wondered where to go next, because rooms were so hard to find. We had nearly completed our freshman year before we were thoroughly adjusted to the new surroundings and atmosphere. As Sophomores, how proud we felt when we could participate with the upper classmen, in the senior assembly each week. We ventured into some of the activities of the school, a little timidly to be sure, but with increasing courage. We now studied ancient history. Although we thought Rameses ll and Alexander the Great were courageous, we secretly felt that these men should have remained dead instead of rising to plague us with their deeds. Oh, well '- - Iuniors! my what a name and we surely were proud of it. We felt we were more mature and with unlimited confidence we invaded every musical activity, dramatic production and athletic team. We admired Gareth, de- spised Launcelot, adored Lynette, and sighed with Elaine. Our study in Physics led us to pride ourselves in our-ahem-intellectual advancements. As Seniors we have reached the most admired stage of our whole life. Chemistry, which we found to be quite messy, has never lost its novelty. Problems of American Democracy seemed very insignificant to us seniors. We had greater problems to worry about. Who would be chosen class Presi- dent? Who would be in the class play? Would our pictures turn out well? These and many other weighty questions kept us awake nights. We have spent four years of our lives at Benton High-four years of study, of joys and cares, of work and play. We hope that the graduates of '39 will have a pleasant future.

Darcy Whitenight The class officers were given the responsibility of carrying the Seniors through the many Senior year activities, such as the year book and com- rnencement. The thoroughly interested and capable officers, with the helpful guidance of Mr. Miller, our home room teacher, and the cooperation of the class of '39, have successfully and efficiently led the class over the obstacles which arose and have brought the Senior year to a satisfactory close.
