Junior spirit is alive well. We claimed the spirit award at all but one of the pep assemblies. We tied for 1st place in the overall homecoming week competition won the Winter Sports week. Air Band “The Fireman” A fun part of the competitions was the air band. Here Troy’s rendition of George Strait’s “The Fireman”, with Fred, Christina Cindy as backup won first place for the Juniors. The Varsity Volleyball Team had a successful year under the new leaderhsip of Kim Robinette and assistant, Bernadette Medina. For the first time, our spikers defeated the Rocky Ford Girl’s team. Fans, parents and the stu- dent body were excited to watch the Lady Trojans in action. This was a confident team as they show- ed their skills at setting, spiking and team play. L.A. State Wrestling Tournament was held at McNichols Sports Arena in Denver on Feb. 19-21. The Trojans had four wrestlers go to State. They were: Jason Reed, Manuel Lincon, Robert Denton and Troy Bonewell. Reed placed third at 126 lbs.; Lincon was sixth at 155 lbs.; and Denton finished fifth in the 138 lb. division. Following the assembly, a parade displaying the student’s hard work on their floats was held. The homecoming game against La Junta proved to be a hard fought contest for more than a half; La Junta emerged victorious. All the classes worked hard during the week, with the juniors accumulating the most points and winning the prize. There were some fun dress up days including: hippie day, movie star day, beach day, dress up day, and blue and white day. There was also some fun times in the noon ac- Winter Sports tivities and some fierce competi- tion in the pep assembly. The wrestlers lost a close dual meet with Lamar and the boys basket- ball players suffered the same fate to Lamar, while the girls basketball team beat Rocky Ford.
