DEDICATION Charles Morley The 1984 Las Animas High School Yearbook is dedicated to Science Teacher Charles Morley, who passed away June 5, 1984. Since 1969 Mr. Morley had taught math and science at Las Animas High School. He was a dedicated and quiet man who worked hard to teach scientific methods to high school students. He was a tireless worker who volunteered many hours to school activities. 1936-1984 Mr. Morley was born August 9, 1936 in Villegreen, Colo. He was married to Lorna Annell Abbott in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Las Animas Education Association, the Colorado Education Association and the National Education Association. He was pastor of the Parkview Southern Baptist Church. Mr. Morley (far right) is pictured after being chosen Trojan of the Month, an honor recognizing outstanding teachers and students. He was selected with Wes Smith, Connie Cook and Judy Hoffman.

Challenge, Ac, Always Success ... The desire to succeed has been the driving force behind man’s existence since his primal birth. Success has always been the nectar and ambrosia that has fed countless dreamers. We are now a new generation of dreamers striving to overcome all difficulties that lead us away from success. We set our goals for life, all hinging upon our being successful in all our endeavors. Yet, true success is not bred by a desire to win its honor. Indeed, in order to first succeed one must first delve into his own soul, for in that vast expanse lies the true meaning of success and failure. A content man will seldom fall prey to greed, and then his own doom. A wise man learns from his mistakes. He then uses his experience throughout his life. This man will be a success. We who are now leaving the halls of education should take a lesson from the wise man and learn from others’ failures as well as our own. A Dragon lives in the world today. His name is Failure. Men and women alike are terrified of this beast, for he goads them onward to their destruction. Failure can be defeated, however, by the weakest of men. He who learns how to symbolize Failure, not the man who fears and tries blindly to avoid the dragon, will always succeed. —Bill Davis 2
