SANTA FE TRAIL DAY IS BIGGEST EVENT OF YEAR Who's heard of half-breeds wearing tennis shoes? Miss Bess Hanna, former school teacher, was honored guest for Trail Day activities. BRAVE?!! In memory of those who won the West. Santa Fe Trail Day festivities were begun witn a parade featuring Representative Frank Evans, form- er Representative J. Edgar Chenoweth, and Mayor Kitty Ann Long. The parade was followed by a ranchburger spon- sored by the sophomore and junior classes.. The an- nual Santa Fe Trail Day rodeo highlighted the after- noon. That evening awards were presented and classes participated in a square dance contest, with the sen- iors capturing first place.

With the initiation of new mem- bers, NHS began a year of productive service. Membership includes those juniors and seniors who maintain a “B” average in academic studies. The students are also evaluated for membership by the faculty on the basis of scholarship, service, leader- ship, and character. The guest speaker at the ceremonies was The Reverend Charles Horne.
