School BESS HAGGARD, Business Manager Pictured above - Richard Jorgenson, Harry Allen, Superintendent, Roy Cooper, Ed The 1964-65 school term was marked by much activity concerning the educational program and the building needs to appropriately house this program. The instructional program needs were thoroughly outlined early in the year by the teaching staff after a citizens committee had submitted recommendations for the curriculum. For evaluation of the buildings, the district employed an architect. Through the architect, complete engineering surveys were conducted which gave detailed status reports of the structural, electrical and mechanical conditions of the buildings. Working in cooperation with the architect, the Board of Directors developed a building plan which was designed to meet the most pressing needs of the instructional program. The plan which was adopted by the Board for referral to the electorate pro- vided for the construction of a new high school building. This proposal was submitted to the electorate of the school dis- trict in a bond proposal on February 23, 1965. The proposal failed to receive ratification by the electorate; therefore, a complete re-study and the structuring of a new proposal was indicated. A regular biennial school election was conducted on the first Tuesday in May, 1965. Three new members were elected to the Board and these new members took office immediately to serve with the three remaining members of the old board. The first major item of business taken under consideration by the newly organized board was the study of the building needs of the school district. It is anticipated that a building plan will be developed and a bond issue proposed to finance the plan during the early part of the 1965-66 school term. -6-
