These characteristics are renewed with ever increasing significance for us in the present time of challenge. The accelerated nature of our scientific and cultural progress demand of us an ever increasing individual responsibility. We sincerely hope, and at the same time rest assured, that your experiences as a Trojan have provided you with a substantial background which will provide for you ample reserves of pluck, endurance and determined spirit to allow you to meet with comfort the challenges of your time. Harry A. Allen, Superintendent iPn mcip l s M essage Tradition plays a large role in our school environment. The high standards of scholarship and conduct at Las Animas High School are the legacy of devoted men, women, boys, and girls. All of us should strive not only to maintain, but to raise these standards. This yearbook; will be cherished by you in direct proportion to your active participation in, and contribution to the life of the school. The 1962 Trojan Staff has produced this yearbook to preserve for you the happy memories of your high school days. May the Trojan help you enjoy happy memories and stimulate you to live according to the Trojan traditions. We, the members of the 1961-62 Trojan Staff, respectfully and appreciatively dedicate this annual to one who has given of her time unselfishly and sincerely throughout the past seven years. In serving the students of Bent County High School, she has been class sponsor numerous times as well as the sponsor of the Trojan Spirit and the Shorthand Club. Because of her interest and effort, there are many who have left B.C.H.S. confident in their abilities, well prepared for commercial work ahead of them. To MISS BILLIE NELSON, friend and teacher, we gratefully devote this TROJAN 1961-62. elsom 1 .Arts MAGNIFICENT AUTUMN! He comes not like a pilgrim, clad in russet weeds; not like a hermit, clad in gray; but like a warrior with the stain of blood on his brazen mail. His crimson scarf is rent; his scarlet banner dripping with gore; his step like a flail on the threshing floor. - Longfellow OoodLye BCHS Senior Class Officers DOUG HOFFMAN LAURA LEE CRITES BOB DEAL LYNN MORLEY NITA BOHRER Y-Teens 1,2,3 Pep Club D.E. 4 Library 4 JUDI ANDERSON Excelsior Springs, Missouri 1; Y-Teens 2,3,4; Latin Club 2,3; Pep Club 2, 3, 4; Dramatics Clerk 3, 4; Class Officer 1; Student Council Representative; IRC 3; Cheerleader 3,4. This ended the dual-meet season for the grapplers and they finished with a 11-1 loss record. Their only loss came when they were edged by Canon City 26-23. This loss kept them from owning complete league honors. They beat La Junta in a home thriller, 24-23, and edged past Lamar, the third place team by a score of 24-17. This was one of the best wrestling teams fielded by the high school for several years. Recently, the best a Las Animas team has done in league was in 1960 when they finished third. Throughout your book we have attempted to catch the spirit of BCHS in all her moods: Autumn, Winter, Spring. Here, in this picture, we have captured the spirit of the school AND the mischieveousness of her students - of all Youth -for just a fleeting moment. Since our school is no longer BCHS, we feel that this is a fitting end to your 1962 TROJAN. , rH'ii •a -s.
