Enthusiasm was high, with the Pep Club putting on an assembly, the juniors selling ribbon corsages, the seniors selling balloons, and the freshmen gathering old trees and tires for the bonfire, and the student council offering prizes for the best-decorated cars in the parade. Homecoming officially began with the bonfire and Snake Dance held Thursday night. Before everyone crashed the show, a dummy (representing La Junta) was hung in the main intersection downtown. After the Pep Assembly on Friday afternoon, the float (a 50-ft. semitrailer), the band and a procession of cars paraded through town. The queen and her attendants were introduced at the game that night, and were crowned by the football captains at the dance. C. H. S. Ennui is slowly rounding the bend; flags flying, whistles blowing and—Mrs. Moe swabbing the deck with guess who? Tom Hulse, now known as Tomesino Valentino, Hollywood's greatest lover. What's that splash we hear? Do not be alarmed, it was just Glenda Tucker, former president of U. N. General Assembly, overboard about some man again. And who is he? None other than Parson Byron P. Griffy alias Cuddles, who was carried away by a vicious Arkansas River shark. To the rescue. Tuck! shouted Mr. Thurston, Toni Twin of 1964. This is terrible! No one will rescue Parson Griffy because they are too busy watching the Fabulous Ferrell Sisters doing a can-can on the star-board deck accompanied by Merry Mary Ann Thomeczek and her Royal Beachcombers. We hear there's some rivalry between Merry Mary and Joe Alvarez and his Yakaheli Zither Quintet, recently returned from a successful tour of the Larimer Street freight yards, a tour marred only by the mysterious disappearance of Jennie Schroeder, the sixth member of the Quintet, who was last seen wandering off in a southerly direction following the trade winds toward the stock yards. Vanda Lyman, Temperance Offical from Sacred Mind, Kentucky, is sitting in the corner passionately practicing yoga. Prancing merrily up to him, her collection of shrunken human heads dangling from her belt, is Pat Glassco, Queen of the Amazons, accompanied by her train-bearer, Richard Whiting. (In each hand Richard carries a Lionel train. ) Bony Bryant, the human skeleton with Dr. Mary Avila's Famous Golden Elixir and Arapahoe Herb Cure-All Medicine Show, is playing spit in the ocean poker with Dooley, Duran and Davison, the 3-D’s, also with Davis, the 4th Dimension. Dinner is served, said the noted French chef, Melvin Hogue, or as he is known in Paris Le Garcon Ptomaine. Stampeding to the table are Lorene Kerr, who enters as a flapper, yelling 23 Skidoo and all that old rot! She is accompanied by Pat Miller and Ida Montana, world famous dress designers. They are known for their all purpose dresses. (They look better after a couple years hard wear. ) They are closely followed by Delbert Cada and Ken Holt, carrying between them a handsome plaster of paris trophy won at the International Tiddly-winks Tournament in Peoria. Dale Curley, author of the best selling romantic novel, Terse Words for the Birds, greedily munching pork hocks, is carrying on a brilliant literary discussion with noted poetess, Joyce Best. The festive board is not really groaning. What we hear are Pat Armijo, Richard Richards, John Beck and John Elder singing, in close harmony, Beautiful Dreamer. All except for Pat who mis-understood directions and is singing Glow-worm in double time. Noted ear specialists, Christine Marlman, Amy Uyeda and Annita Smith are joyfully standing at the scene contemplating an upsurge of business consequent upon these melodic efforts. Helen Carpenter, star of the radio serial,Lucie Whiffle, Girl Waffle Sniffer, who is sailing to England to do a Command Performance before the Prince of Wails, Bob Tigner, is peering sadly over the rail looking for a French poodle she mis-placed. Suddenly a loud snuffing sound is heard. As we turn about we see, nose to the ground, dewlaps hanging loosely, none other than our defective detective, Darol Crays, hot on the trail of the notorious malefactors. Scar Face Kay Ackley, Pecos Bill Price, Rennee the Kid Kenworthy and Horrible Brucie Thayer, the lollipop snatcher, who have just completed their most successful job. the kidnapping of La Dora Brown for $75, 000. ranson. This is nothing to La Dora, who made her pile selling gaudy trinkets to the untutored savages of B. C. H. S. back in 1955. Her lawyer, Ron Morehead, advised La Dora to pay the ransom saying, After all, they need it worse than you do. Aft on the poop deck a spirited crap game is in session. Heavy winners being Anna Mae Arguello, Perry Hill, Velma Bogner and Lee Robinson. Lee still has a pallid cast to his complexion, from his recent incarceration in the death row at Canon City. Only the intervention of Governor Judy Bourne saved Lee from the hot seat for the attempted murder of Sara Jo Hyatt and Ken Warmbir, his partners in the great Wrigley Chewing Gum Job of 1957. Judy has as her most frequent escort at official functions the dashing young Chamber of Commerce President, Dave Terboss. Speaking of V. I. P. Louise Hill is now president of the sofa pillow makers union and spends most of her time making business calls to New York. As this is being related time has been passing, and the Ennui turns to return down stream. Her captain Shirley Shenk sees something ahead. What is it? After careful study she concludes that it’s an island. On the island is a tent. And in the tent are Peggy Willburn, Helen Elmer and Margaret Abel, living as lady hermits, subsisting on overripe pawpaws washed ashore in the spring floods. The afternoon wanes, its passing livened by a soft shoe dance put on by Carolyn Niswonger. Her accompanists are Bob Flinn, Jean Titus, and Ted Lara, the Tinny Tuba Trio. Since the trio's repatoire consists of one number Flight of the Bumblebee, Carolyn soon tires and everyone turn toward the western horizon their gaze being riveted on the golden sun as it slowly sinks form the azure sky, its dying rays silhouetting the mad scientists, Larry Patty and Don Guthals, who are dancing and hurling curses and Pepsi-Cola bottles at our departing hulk. The Trojans, clicking regularly on the ground and in the air. rolled to their first triumph of the season. LAMAR The Trojans were defeated 18-0 in their league game debut. Although behind 20-12 at halftime, the Trojans came back with a savage attack and went on to a triumphant 25-20 victory. FLORENCE The Trojans lost a hard fought battle to a powerful Florence team, 20-6. The Trojans played good ball, but they couldn't quite stop the big Huskies. LA JUNTA Before a large crowd the Trojans dropped their Homecoming game 34-6 to the league leading La Junta Tigers. The Trojans were a little set back in the first quarter, but came back and played good ball the rest of the game. Sponsored by F. H. Had conditions been better, the Trojans would probably been able to roll up more points. m WALSENBURG This game shows what makes coaches' hair turn gray. The Trojans were defeated by the Walsenburg Panthers 35-14. WALSENBURG ST. MARY'S The Trojans ended the season with a 35-6 victory over Walsenburg St. Mary's.
