Principal ' s Message To the Senior Class of 1962: As you leave us this spring, we hope that you have been able to gain some insight into the many problems you will face in a rapidly changing world. For your consideration, we might list a few of these problems and the American way of meeting them: 1 . Due to the rapid change maue in the world of technology, science, and mechanical operations, information which was valid a short time ago, will no longer be valid. This means that you must keep an open mind relative to new problems and new information. The fact that the world no longer lives on the same level as our grandparents, does not necessarily mean that the world is going on the rocks. We must recognize change as a part of life. Of course, all change will not be for the best interest of mankind. You will need to keep your head in the air, but your feet upon the ground in considering changes. Be idealistic, of course, but remain practical. 2. Our way of life is being jeopardized by those who would make the individual the complete servant of the state. You will need to recognize this and make an effort at all times to recognize the worth of human personality and effort. Our system of education in America is based upon the development of the individual in order that he or she may become a more useful and productive citizen. Continue to support our American way of life. 3. Individual effort and accomplishment are the things which have made our country great. We do not get something for nothing . Our rights are determined by how well we meet our duties and responsibilities. Often privileged Americans proclaim long and loud their God-given rights and privileges, but pay very little attention to their duties and responsibilities. True Americans are not looking for a free ride. This is indeed very- poor c itizenship. We are not worthy of rights and privileges unless we can meet our duties and responsibilities which go along with these. For every right and privilege, there is a corresponding duty and responsibility. 4 . In the big hurry and push to accumulate material things and meet social obligations, you will need time for recognition of your duties and responsibilities in relation to your God. Remember the Sovereign Creator has first claim on your life. Acknowledge Him in all your ways . It is our sincere hope that you will be able to meet the stern demands of the years ahead in keeping with the ideals of a simple, child-like faith in Him who said, Ye Are the Light of the World. Our best wishes follow you wherever your paths may lead. William J. Barefoot, Principal 9
