Prophecy It is a warm night in June of the year 1965. Former classmates of the 1960 graduating class are gathered at Cape Canaveral, Florida, waiting for the rocket ship, Leonard, to whisk us off for an unforgettable journey to the Moon Republic of America. As we enter the rocket ship, we are told by JOYCE RAYNOR who has become a suc- cessful stewardess, to fasten our seat belts. Next we are greeted by the captain of the Leonard, CONNIE HOLLAND. Looking around, we see R. L. GODWIN, SHERWOOD STEWART, J. R. LEE and WAYNE STEPHENSON , several promi- nent tobacco farmers. Suddenly the passengers of the rocket ship break into a roar of laughter. It seems that JERRY PENNY, a famous comedian, has just cracked one of his hilarious jokes. DOROTHY COATS, MARIE DOR- MAN, and ROCHELLE McLAMB can ' t seem to stop laughing. Of course we all know this is just to cover up their loneliness which is caused by their being away from their families. When we pass through the Milky Way, DAVID BRADLEY, GORDON McLAMB, and ELBERT MASSAD, all famous scientists, seem to be in a trance as they discuss the formation of this galaxy. SCOTT AMIS, GUAN BARBOUR, and HOWARD NORRIS, nuclear engineers, join in the discussion. For entertainment along the way ARLENE ENNIS, JANICE HALL, FRANCES McLAMB, EDNA RUTH JACKSON, and JOYCE STANCIL relate some amusing incidents about their married life to BETTY MANGUM and RACHEL TART, who say married life is not for them. Suddenly the voice of JAMES ALLEN comes over the inter- com informing us that we are about to land. Greeting us after we land is a platoon of Moon Rangers. We recog- nize several of our former classmates. JIM BEST, ED HALLER, PAUL LANGDON, and BILL MONDAY have chosen this branch of military service as a career. Walking through the rocket terminal we see several offices which remind ANN CURRIN, SANDRA HODGES, DORIS ALLEN, and JACKIE ALLEN of their jobs as secretaries in the Empire State Building back on earth. Upon arriving at the Hotel Lunar, we are greeted by its owner, LARRY TART. The desk clerk, HAROLD GODWIN, gives us the keys to our rooms. After resting a few minutes we go to The Comet, a night club owned by RAEFORD SURLES. Performing is BRENDA STEPHENSON with her all-girl band, The Moon- lighters. Playing first clarinet and trumpet are JUDY COATS and CAROLYN PENNY respectively. JUDI JOHN- SON and BRENDA JOHNSON, well known as the Twin Pianos, are also members of this band. SARAH WHITTING- TON, GAY NELL ENNIS, and FRANCES ENNIS, who make up the Venus Trio, perform with a look of professional- ism, as they sing Moon Over Miami. Suddenly all eyes are turned toward the door as JANET JOHNSON, Miss Moon Republic of America, enters in all her glamour. Finally the time comes for us to return to the hotel. The next day we arise early, because we have a busy schedule ahead of us. First we visit the race track, where we get the thrill of a lifetime as jockey, DOUGLAS BARNES, leads his horse to victory. Next we tour a rocket factory owned by VADEN HOLMES. He is talking to his department heads, DONALD BYRD and LARRY CLAYTON, about some new plans. After leaving the factory we are ready to eat lunch at a famous restaurant owned by PHIL JOHN- SON. The lunch is very enjoyable. While letting our food digest, we decide to attend the Moon Series between the Planets and the Meteors, well known baseball teams. Through our binoculars we spy some former class- mates who are now major league baseball players. They are BUDDY JOHNSON, STACY BLACKMAN, and RANDEL HOLLAND. Nurses JOYCE CREECH and ELIZABETH WOOD are on hand in case of a misfortune on the field. Model JANET STEPHENSON enters with her famous hairdresser, JUDY NORDAN. It seems that everyone is interested in the Moon Series. Before returning to earth, we go to FRED JONES ' cattle ranch for a steak supper. SUE LYNN BAILEY, great home economist, gives bachelor Fred some pointers on preparing outdoor meals. After eating, we sit around the campf ire singing some famous songs written by JIMMY MOORE, a well-known writer. Now it comes time to return to earth. All farewells are said and we start our journey. It ' s been loads of fun, but everyone seems anxious to return home. Upon reaching earth we go our separate ways. I, JUDITH WHITTINGTON, must return to work on my Master ' s Degree and I, SUSAN WOOD, to Medical School. CLASS PROPHETS Susan Wood Judith Whittington 11
