To Senior Class of 1958: As you leave our high school this year, we want you to know that you have made a definite and constructive contribution to the life of our school. You have been a class of high ideals, persistent effort and good citizenship. Many of your group have made outstanding records in scholarship and other school activities. Many problems will confront you as you leave us. I trust you have gained some insight into the many intricate problems now facing our country and the world. These difficult problems will require a high devotion to duty, personal integrity, a high degree of responsibility, and above all a loyal devotion to the highest and best of our moral and spiritual values. To help you fill your place honorably and effectively in a world of turmoil, you will need the help and advice of friends, knowledge and understanding of current events, and above all, guidance and help from our Divine Creator. Humility and reverence will be required of you at all times if you are to serve well your fellow -man, your community and your God. We are living in an age of tremendous scientific advancement. Atomic bombs, hydrogen bombs, missiles, space rockets, etc. are common words in the vocabulary of even our younger people. Certainly the great advances made in the field of science have placed the human race in such a position as to eradicate itself or to use these great advances for the good of humanity. We are in doubt as to whether our moral and spiritual progress has kept pace with our scientific progress. Has the edu- cation of the heart kept pace with the education of the head? Your generation will answer this question. Throughout the ages, men have sought to find their greatest comfort and solace in the material things of life. To a very limited degree they have succeeded. How- ever, in the final accounting of all things, it will be the great Imperishables of Life which have given men their greatest comfort and satisfaction. These great spiritual values have endured throughout the ages and will continue to endure throughout the endless ages of eternity. I point you to a careful study of the fifth chapter of St. Matthew for these abiding values. These are the great principles which will endure after the material things of this life have all decayed and passed from the earth. My sincere wish for you is that you will endeavor to find and follow in your useful and fruitful years ahead these great and abiding spiritual values. Wm. J. Barefoot, Principal 7
