In the fall of ' 52 we entered Benson High School as fifty- one green freshmen. We may have looked proud and cocky, but on the inside we were frightened. Several of us took part in activities such as sports and glee club. With the guiding hands of our sponsors, Mrs. Stephenson, Mr. Nance and Mrs. Penny, we soon found ourselves sophomores. We began our sophomore year by electing Jimmy Taylor, President; Marian Jones, Vice President; Harriette Vann, Secretary; Judy McLamb, Treasurer; and Sue Wheeler Den- ning, Citizenship Representative. Mr. Godwin and Mr. Ste- phens were proud when nine of us were tapped for the Beta Club. In order to raise money, Mr. Barefoot let us sponsor the Sauline Players. By the time we became Juniors we felt we were getting somewhere in this old world. With Robert Barefoot as Pres- ident; Marian Jones, Vice President; Dixie Clayton, Sec- retary; Penny Hardee, Treasurer; and Jo Ann Frye, Citizen- ship Repre sentative, we began our many activities. The class elected Judy McLamb editor of our school paper, The Stu- dent and with the help of Mrs. Johnson and Miss Barber, our sponsors, we published the fir st edition of our paper in October. Due to the hard work by Glenda Norris, chairman, Stunt Night proved a great success. Soon after Christmas we selected The Campbells are Coming as our Junior Play under the direction of Mr. Carol Corbett. Due to the great success of our play and Stunt Night we were able to give the Seniors a nice banquet at the Smith- field Country Club. The theme of our banquet was Hawaiian Cruise. The Junior Class Marshals, Marian Jones, chief; Sue Wheeler Denning, Judy McLamb, Harriette Vann, Libbie Jean Lee, Dixie Clayton, Alonzo Parrish III, and Don Neighbors helped in various Senior activities. The first highlight of our Senior year was receiving our rings. With the selection of June Graduate as our Senior play, we began work on it in November. We completed our Senior year and reached our goal, GRAD- UATION, under the guidance of our sponsor, Mrs. Y.A. Mat- thews. We hope these four years in high school have prepared us for the future. Section I Article 1. To our dear old Alma Mater we leave our sincere love and loyalty. Article 2. To our parents we bequeath our love and utmost appreciation for their efforts in help- ing us to reach our goal. Section II Article 1. To the faculty we give our deepest sympathy for having to contend with us in our high school career. Article 2. To Mr. Barefoot we leave our new volume of the French book, composed by the French class and a mile-high stack of history books. Section III Article 1. To the Junior Class we leave our dignity, the few Senior privileges, and our seats in the auditorium. Article 2. To the Sophomore Class we leave our ample amount of good, common judgment for their use. Article 3. To the Freshmen, (bless their little innocent hearts), we leave our desks with the hope that there is room left on them for their names also. Section IV Article 1. Levon Allen ' s ability to take his school bus around the corner with one wheel- - steering wheel, that is, to Jerry Morgan. 3. Gealder Barbour ' s long, long hair to Vivian Barbour. 4. Robert Barefoot ' s Ability to have girls run after him to Gerald Johnson. 5. Stacy Beasley ' s sex appeal and wit to Phill Norris. 6. Richard Britt ' s ability to sleep in class to Billy Johnson. 7. Ray Campbell ' s bookkeeping ability to David Haller. 8. Dixie Clayton and Joanne Frye ' s ability to get a man, then the diamond before he gets away to Z ona Faye Barbour. 9. Foy Dean Clayton ' s everburning torch for a Junior boy to anyone who succeeds in getting him. 10. Jack Creech ' s height and physique to Jackie Ennis. 11. Sue Frances Denning ' s ability to date and also keep up her homework to Linda Lou Denning. 12. Sue Wheeler Denning ' s big mouth and love for cheerleading to Frances Thorton. 13. Gerald ine Glover ' s ability to play basketball to Sue Creech. 14. Loral Godwin ' s friendliness to Betty F. Surles, with this motto in mind, Smile and the world smiles with you. 15.
