CLASS HISTORY In the fall of ' 50 we entered a new faze of our life. We were green Freshmen, badly in need of a guiding light. We found this light in Miss Leah Phelps, Mrs. Kyle Stephenson, and Mr. Mitchell Nance. We pulled through the ninth grade and in a short while found ourselves sophomores. When we came back to school in ' 5 1 , we were not quite so tim- id. Our teachers, Mr. Bernard Godwin and Mr. Judson Stephens proved to be the strong disciplinarians we needed. To start our fund for use in the coming years, we sold magazines. Things like that kept us so busy that we hardly realized we were almost Jun- iors. Our Junior year was filled with extracurricular activities. Al- most as soon as we entered school we started plans for Stunt Night. This proved a success, thanks to the help of our sponsors, Mrs. Catherine Smith and Mrs. Minerva Perkinson. Immediately after Christmas holidays we selected Brother Goose as our play. After much practicing and preparing , we gave a performance which was a credit to our class. Plans for our Jr. -Sr. Banquet were next in order. The Johnston County Country Club proved a wonderful setting for our MADRI GRAS theme. With the assistance of Rudy Lamone ' s fine band, we said farewell to the seniors in grand style. Our Junior year ended by the selection of our annual staff. As Seniors we found school much harder and spent most of our time studying. We gave our Senior play, Marriage Is Murder , which proved to be successful. Through the continued efforts of Miss Ella Mae Sterling, our sponsor, we finally reached our goal GRADUATION! 18

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT County of Johnston Town of Benson We, the Senior Class of 1955, considering ourselves the best class to enter, leave, or otherwise come in contact with the finest school in Johnston County, having added new crevices to our brains by wading through, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night ' s Dream, and Silas Marner, and a million and one themes, and still being of sound body and excellent mind, do hereby declare this to be our last will and testament. Section I Item 1. To our parents, who have stood by us through all our trials and trib- ulation, we leave our sincerest thanks and gratitude for all the money, the patience, and the understandings which you have so graciously be- stowed upon us when it was most needed. Item 2. To our dearest Alma Mater we leave footprints on the sands of time. Item 3. To our class Historian, we will the right of writing about all the good wehavedome, and ask that a copy be placed where all interested in the advancement of the nation have access to it. Section II Item 1. To our principal , we leave our MODEST conduct, UNDIVIDED attention of squaring up, and our CLEVER remarks. Item 2. To our teachers , especially Miss Ella Mae Starling, we leave our hopes of better years to come. Section III Item 1 . To the unspecting Freshmen, (bless their hearts) we leave all our knowledge, our high sense of humor, a continuation of all our brilliant ideas and at least one stick of gum a day. Item 2. To the Sophomore Clas s , we leave our knowledge and brilliant minds- - hoping that someday, they too, will reach the top. Item 3. To the Juniors, we leave our Senior privileges, and a magnifing glass with which to find them. Our dignity , (if we have any) will also be handed down to you as it was for us. Section IV Item 1. To the Students: I, Doris Adams, leave my love for cheerleading to Janice Allen, with this saying: May the rest be the best. I, Stacy Bailey, leave my dependable ways to Dale Holmes. I, Shelton Barefoot, leave my love of laughing to some sad sack. I, J. E. Beasley, leave my HAPPY school days to anyone who can finish. I, Goldie B 1 a c k m a n , leave my loud mouth and flirty ways to Mary Frances Oakley. I, Sue Burgess, just leave and say goodby. I, Sue Denning, leave my place in Senior Class as cutest to anyone who gets it. 19
