Billie Ray Pleasant: living in P. Ridge with dog and gun. Fox married his girl. Nellie Rose Pleasant: owner of a cafe in Angier and married; but she gives instructions on the methods of driving buses over red hills each spring and fall. Eleanor Porter: still in her 9th year at college, studying twelve hours a day on her thirteenth degree; and earnestly hoping Prince Charming will soon cause her to quit. Connor Raynor: owner of biggest theater in Benson, and he isn ' t ticket seller or usher. Jane Royal: married her famous London Correspondent and is now serving tea in her famous London home. Hazel Raynor: featured star on radio program It pays to be Ignorant. Nowell Smith, Jr.: working in Hollywood, throwing big parties for the big shots in the movies. Katie Stancil: is a graduate from Barbizon Modeling School and has a successful career with eye catchers fashion shop in New York City. Alvie Pearl Stewart: living in Newton Grove under the name of Mrs. Jernigan. Larry Stewart: millionaire owner of New York Yankees and the second Old Man Baseball. Louise Stewart: vice-president in charge of balloons and tinker toy sets at Rose ' s 5 10 store. Pauline Stewart: has finally succeeded in getting her home down in Newton Grove. Iswaine Stephenson: reviver of vaudeville; sings Lindy Lou three times a day. Fannie Lou Surles: getting smarter every day and is quiet an authority in millinery. Jerry Wall: famous chemical engineer who discovered how to make corn liquor from sweet potatoes ' Milared Warren: living in Florida, working as a hat check girl in a swanky night club. Donald Bailey: secured a job with Al Capps as his stand-in for Lil Abner. Having crossed the palms of gypsy fortune tellers, gazed into the crystal balls and studied the stars with the astrologers, we find these are the futures for the largest class in the history of Benson High School. PROPHECY After we consulted fortune tellers, witch doctors, and astrologers, we have discovered what the seniors of 1949 will be ten years from now. Mozelle Allen: the head nurse at Watts Street Hospital, Durham, is happly married. Jean Barbour: loud as ever, has made history by being the first lady auctioneer in Durham. Johnnie Barefoot: the leading farmer in Johnston County, with several businesses on the side. Joan Benton: Editor of the New York Times is still relieved about finishing the ' Tatler. Genevieve Byrd: since her idea of modeling has vanished, she now hopes to be the wife of a mule dealer in Angier. Jo Anne Capps: still waiting for J. C. to call. Oras Clifton: the world famous comedian in the Hop Hope radio program. Donald Capps: still drinking milk shakes, but trying as hard as ever to reduce. Wilma Coats: still trying to find her way around in her eleven room mansion in Godwin. Doris Creech: weighing apples in her new food market. Jane Denning: selling magazines to help send Aubrey through State. Jerre Denning: swimming instructor at the naval academy in Annapolis, keeping an eye on her future husband. Phyllis Duke: married and helping Milby with his embalming. Hazel Faye Ennis: trying to raise her children on candy from Lane ' s Candy Store. Doris Flowers: President of the United Airlines; married four times. Jimmie Gibbs: head waiter at Campbell ' s Night Club with a prize winning stage show. Shelton Godwin: owner of Godwin ' s Date Bureau, (has fifty beautiful girls on the payroll)- Earl Hall: happily married and living in the country with the little Halls running around. Judie Holmes: still practicing for the concert stage, is guite an authority in constructing Elec- trical Engineering projects. Betty Jo Johnson: who was always guiet, is working for the F. B. I. in Washington. Cecil Johnson: selling autos and very industrious. Sue Johnson: private secretary for the Governor; advises him on all matters. Esther Keene: guiet as ever; is a successful writer for Colliers. Peggy Massengill: soprano with Metropolitan Opera Company. Doris Jean McLamb: married to a prosperous business man. Jean McLamb: Finished at Meredith and was five minutes early for every class. Isla Ruth McLamb: with Barnum and Bailey Circus, queen of high trapeze. Dan Medlin: president of Medlin Inc. and very much in love with his private secretary, Kay Ryals. Daisy Belle Miller: Hollywood glamour girl who has to beat play boys off with a stick. Lindell Nordan: still holding parking spaces at Butlers. Geraldine Page: farmer ' s wife; wins hog calling contest every year at State Fair. Dorothy Parrish: married to a man who has a good enough sense of humor to put up with her and her oratory. 23
