HISTORY OF CLASS When we as freshmen entered high school four years ago, we had to adjust ourselves to many changes in our school life. The three minutes allowed us between classes to get to our rooms seemed almost unreason- able, and it was quite awhile before the halls were clear of late students going to their classes. Our homeroom teacher was Mrs. S. Nordon, a small but determined teacher. Our genius that year was Katharine Gaskins, who won the prize, awarded by Mr. Whittington for making the best grades in the freshman class. Another school year gave us the pride of saying we were sophomores. Our subjects that year were more complicated especially algebra; but with cooperation and hard work with our teacher, Miss Gainey, who also was our homeroom teacher, we managed to pull through. Our gem of our sophcmore class was Margaret Vaughan, who won the prize as the best all around girl. In 1945 we entered our Junior year with a class of only twenty-seven students. Many of the friends entering high school with us had enlisted in service and others had married. Although ours was a small class, having Miss Gainey again for our homeroom teacher helped us to obtain our spotlight in the activities of Benson High. The outstanding event during our Junior year was the Junior-Senior banquet, an occasion, which I ' m sure all present thoroughly enjoyed. The Junior winning the Whittington prize for showing greatest im- provement in grades and sportsmanship was Ermaline Register. At last: our Senior year with only a few months until we have ac- complished cur goal. For our homeroom teacher we have one of the very best, Miss M. Lassiter, whom I ' m sure we will never forget A day to be remembered was Senior day at Chapel Hill. True to custom, it rained that day but in spite of getting wet we had a very nice time. Ermaline Register. 7

SENIOR CLASS Officers CLASS POEM By Laynell Penny As we reach the end Of our Senior year, We think of the things That we hold so dear. First of all, our teachers, To them we owe many debts, For their patience and kindness And examples they have set. Next, our parents Who are waiting to see What examples we will follow And what we will be. And now, our classmates Of whom we are very fond. But soon we must part And think of the years beyond. From these halls we ' ll soon depart And now we say good-bye But we ' ll never forget the memories Of old Benson High. To the future we ' ll look For the things of the best, In God we will trust For our happiness and success. 8
