Sports Scene Witli football starting the 1952- 53 sports parade, the athletic department had little difficulty proving that participation was definitely on the up grade. The gridders finished in second place in the Intercity race and with a satisfactory record of six victories and two defeats, one against out-state competition. This year's basketball team had a highly successful season, as have had court squads of the past. The hoopsters finished in a first place tie with Abraham Lincoln in the Intercity league. From regular season play the team jumped right into tournament compe- tition. Three consecutive wins handed the Bunnies the number one position in the District tourney. After less than a week of rest the cagers moved on to the State finals, only to be defeated by Lincoln Northeast in the tourney's initial contest. Another winter sport is under-emphasized gym- nastics. The boys on the high bars and mats made a successful appearance in the State meet, with two Bunnies landing All-state berths. It is impossible to summarize the spring sports since the Cupola goes to press midway through the season, but a short rundown of the various sports is prom- ising. Baseballers have a good chance of an impressive sea- son since the team is spotted with lettermen. The team has a good tight infield, a strong pitching staff, and many potentially strong hitters. The track team is bolstered by several lettermen and plenty of reserve strength that should prove valuable in cinder competition. Witli a well-rounded team supported by four letter- men, the tennis team should wind up near the top in Intercity competition. If pre-season predictions hold true, the Bunny golf team should end up on the top of the ladder. Three of the four competitive players are lettermen.
