The week was full of many fun activites includ- ing: the pudding eating contest, the volleyball game between the football and volleyball players, the egg toss, the life saver or- ange pass and finally the tug of war. Wednesday evening was the Powder Puff game in which the seniors defeated the juniors, 22- 0. Thursday was a night full of excitement. There was a parade before the coronation which got the evening off to a great start. Coronation started with the Masters of Ceremonies Aimee Rode and Adam Himley rockin’ to the theme, “Glory Days”. The banner hearers were Theresa O'Leary and David Tolifson; crown hearers were Chelsea Stiel and Aaron Jungwirth. There was a tie for best skits going to “The Beach Bums” and “The Fishing Contest . The coronation came to a close with the crowning of the new king and queen. Bill Carruth and Michele O’Leary. The week ended on a “glorious” note, with the football team defeating Glen wood and the volleyball team defeating Morris. The program is spon- sored by the American Legion and is designed to give participants a practical training in local and state government. In this study, they hope to illustrate the forms of representative government and create an enduring interest in governmental affairs. Boys State started with the organization of cities and counties. Next, we were divided into the mythical “Nationalist” and “Federalist” parties. We held state conventions and elected our state legislature and necessary officials. Now, Boys State wasn’t just learning about govern- ment; we also had activities, including baseball, soft- ball, tennis, volleyball, and basketball. In the course of the week we also learned a great deal about getting along with others and how each individual is impor- tant. All in all. Boys State was an experience that I will never forget and I thank the American Legion for giving me the chance to attend. jfa Q r On June 9-15,1985 1 had the honor and privilege of attending the thirty-ninth annual Girls State. I had lots of fun as a citizen of Dakota County and the city of Wowapi. 1 was elected temporary mayor of my city and later as first associate Supreme Court Justice. Fulfilling my duties as a constitutional officer, I participated in all government meetings, swore in Senate officials, and conducted a mock trial in the Supreme Court Chambers at the Capitol. 1 would like to thank the American Legion Auxiliary for sponsoring my very enriching and rewarding ex- perience at the 1985 Girls State. 83 Band Of Braves M.
