The question upper- most in the minds of the students was - who would be king and queen. Earlier the junior and senior girls started training for the annual Powder Puff Football game and plans and practice went on for the coronation program. Thursday night Queen Wanda and King Jerry reigned and were entertained by the coro- nation program, which had a theme of River City . Their attendants were Debbie Larson, Connie Rensink, Linda Doyle, Becky Ellingson, Alan Rice, Tom O'Malley, Dick Gallagher, and Bob Mikkelson. One of the highlights of the evening was Regan's Heroes . On Friday afternoon all attended an outdoor pepfest and the Powder Puff Football game in which the seniors were victorious (14-0). Benson played Sauk Centre Friday evening. During half time Queen Wanda was pre- sented with a bouquet while the band played Some Enchanted Evening . However, everyone was sad at the outcome when Sauk Centre won. The Rare Factions provided the music at a well attended dance which ended the Homecoming for another year. 6 Projectors Club KNEELING: K. Larson, B. For- bord, G. Forbord, R. Burmiester, W. Ahmdt. During the course of the year, many teachers and student teachers spoke to the F.T. A. of their experiences in college and as teachers. They tried to give some insight into what ingredients it takes to be successful at teaching and to be able to work with young people. These sessions enabled members to ask many of the questions they wanted answered about the profession. In the fall some F.T. A. members had the opportunity to go to a workshop at St. Cloud State College. There they spent a day hearing various speakers, dividing into buzz sessions that discussed one course of study, and touring the campus grounds. This year a new project of exchanging students of Benson High School with students be- longing to F.T. A. in another school, was started. The five students who went, stayed with their hosts for two days. During these same two days, they sent their students to spend two days at B. H. S. The representatives attended classes and also went to the game or dance that was held that Friday night. A program in which F.T. A. members worked with Junior High Students to help them with their various problems and schoolwork, was also set up on a voluntary basis. This proved to be very good experience for everyone who participated in it. And of course, as in past years, these students accepted the task of being teacher's aids; that is doing chores such as correcting papers and typing various forms or tests. Most students agree on looking back over this past year that it was a worthwhile and fun organization. 13 SEATED: D. Mauch, C. McGeary. STANDING: Miss Clark, Advisor; L. Schwendeman, T. Coy, L. I arrived in St. Paul with a feeling of uncertainty which was probably only natural because I knew no one. How- ever, I found that it didn't take long to become acquainted with other girls who were from different schools all over Minnesota. During the first three days we carried on election pro- cesses at the city, county, and state levels. This in- cluded many caucuses, campaigns, and elections. We listened to excellent speakers connected with govern- ment, as well as many area speakers whose topics were widely varied. Sunday was highlighted by a splendid formal inauguration of our governor and a tea. The remaining days at Girls' State were spent touring different places including the state capitol where we held a mock session in Congress. That week came to an end too fast, but after I returned home, I realized how much I'd gained at Girls' State; mainly, a knowledge and appreciation of our democratic system and many lasting friends. Boys’ State was held at Gustavus Adolphus College during the second week of June. I was anticipating a long boring week of lectures, classes and speeches and Boys' State was made up of all of these, but most of them were far from boring. Not only were the speeches good in content, but they were delivered by the type of people teenagers like to hear, statesmen, soldiers, and leaders. Leaders seems to be the key word because in order to be a good statesman or a good soldier, you must be a leader. We at Gustavus were not given an opportunity to tour the state capitol like our predecessors, but I don't think any boy there would have traded his week on the beautiful Gustavus campus for a week somewhere else. I thank the Benson American Legion Post for giving me this special opportunity. Scott Anfinson BOTTOM ROW: L. Fjordbak, C. Hawley, A. Strand, M. Holmquist, A. Gallagher, L. Griffin, D. Fahl, L. We started the season with 12 lettermen and a good strong group of newcomers. The conference race was very close in a well balanced wrestling conference--every team being a definate threat. Kadiorama During the month of November 1967, plans were made to begin broadcasting a high school program of news, sports and special interest features. After receiving an au- thorization from the Student Council, a radio committee produced the first pro- gram which was aired on KBMO Radio December 16, 1967 at 1:20 P.M. Because of Radiorama's success, it is the wish of the 1967-68 radio committee that Radiorama will again be instituted during the 1968-69 school year. Homeward bound. BOTTOM ROW: R. Christenson, R.
