While there I had a chance to ac- tually participate in a working govern- ment. Elections were held and there were campaign speeches and posters made. During the week there was a tour of the state capital and many speakers talked to us on politics and government. It was a wonderful opportunity to make friends and learn about our government. Our headquarters was the 4-H dormitory on the St. Paul fairgrounds; our purpose was to learn the fundamentals of a democratic governmental system and renew our pa- triotism for our country; and our reward was the many friendships we made. The week-long session was filled with campaigns, party conventions, elections, sightseeing tours, congressional ses- sions, and informal parties. Many re- nowned speakers lectured us on subjects from racial prejudice to the importance of women in the modern world. We were exposed to our duties as United States citizens and left somewhat better pre- pared for our lives as adults. To the American Legion Women's auxiliary I owe thanks for one of the most memorable weeks I've spent. 28 National Honor Society The National Honor Society is an organization of juniors and seniors who are outstanding both scholastically and academically. Homecoming —1966 A court jester and a town crier; a king and a queen; old songs and apple sellers; all were a part of The Days Gone By, Homecoming, 1966. Queen Mary Ann Huston and King Roger Canon were named to reign over all festiv- ities. Queen Mary Ann's attendants were Jan Christenson, Maridee Fennell, Nancy Johnson, and Simone Lucking. King Roger's attendants were Allen Berens, John Carlson, Phil Holmquist, and Warren Johnson. The festivities included a poster contest, a scoreless powder puff football game be- tween Long's Lovelies and Dedrickson's Dolls, a dinner for the royalty, a dance with music by the Abstracts, and, most important, the football game with Morris. The Braves chalked up a 12-8 victory over the Tigers. The cold numbers (3-6) do not tell the complete story of the season. The Braves of 1966 can be proud of the courage they displayed and the way they played each of their games. They finished fourth in the conference and could have shared or won the title with an if here or there. They led co-champion Willmar (19-7) only to lose in the waning minutes of the game. The other co-champion, Montevideo, had to come from behind to win (7-6) in the final five minutes. The braves played tough football all year and never gave up. They might not have had a winning season, but they played like winners! A1 Grage 45 L: TO R. ROW 1: J. Gutzman, E. Knutson, J. Odden, M. Larson, G. EUlingson, S. Larson, R. Cannon, J. Carlson, W. In games played before the Christmas break, the Braves dropped their first two games and then came back with successive wins over Fergus Falls, Glen- wood.and Wheaton. With only two regulars returning under a new coach, the team is hoping that competition in the tough West Central Conference will aid in getting them ready for defen- se of their District 21 crown. The reserve team was actually a Jr. high team. The Braves dropped their first four meets, two of them to noted teams, then won two. After the Christmas break a few more students turned out for the squad to strengthen some weights. With hard work and hustle, they plan on becoming a fine team. Jerry Hess L. TO R. ROW 1: P.
