-1 N in .NL I, JA. '9 I 0 fqxkg K x 'fl-3 lb rn N to M Xi FOREWORD The bison, the emblem of B.C.H.S., is also a fit- ting symbol of our American heritage, and as such is incorporated into 'the spirit of our book. Since the days when bison roamed the plains, Americans have enioyed the privilege of living in a free land. Each one of us who enioys such free- dom assumes, in turn, the obligation ofbeing good citizens and guardians of our democracy. Our school life, which is presented here, is a very important instrummt in molding the students of today into the Amaican pattem. Our aca- demic courses foster intellectual develop- ment, vhile our athletics encourage physical health, fair play and sportsmanship. Our numerous clubs, publications, and music or- ganizations contribute their share towards our cultural improvement. In our daily con- tact with classmates and members of the faculty we Ieam the social requisites of good citizenship. From healthy high school relationships such as these come young adults who recognize and appreciate their American heritage.

419' ue., I W DEDICATION While our American heritage exists for all of us to reach out and take, it is ne- cessary to learn to understand and appreciate our legacy. This year, the staff of HIGHLIGHTS takes great pride in honoring one who has assumed as her responsi- bility the task of leading young people towards good citizenship and towards a true appreciation of the American heritage which is theirs. Miss Dorothy Dean this year completes her twenty-fifth year as a teacher of American History at Bensenville Community High School.
