This record placed the Owls on top of the second division teams or in fifth place. The boys really put a lot of effort into their game and played well. Fifteen Seniors are leaving the squad. They are: EndseStan Esposito, Joe Carruth, Len Salandrea, Tackles-Paul George, Norm Bo- garde, Guards-Tom Gloyd, Pete Hof, Roger McAndrew, Center-Tom Thompson, Backs- Sam Mudie, Bob Dwyer, Tom Hanrahan, Wayne Beeson, Mike Martin, Ty Stearn. BASKETBALL As we look over the records of previous basketball teams at Bensalem, we find this year's Owls the winningest team we have had. Our boys played a really tough schedule and lost only 4 games. The team was composed of quite a few seniors. They are: Sam Mudie, Curt Conn, Ron Bredbenner, Henry Rutecki, Bob Dwyer and Terry Allison. With all these good men gone you may look to next year with bad hopes, but you are mistaken, our J.V. has only one league defeat to its record. The Owls have emerged as a great basketball power in 1958. COACH MARLON VAN HORN VARSITY Kneeling: R. Breclbenner, J. Kirk, S. Mudie, C. Conn, H. Rutecki. Standing: D. Wurst, B. McLean, H. Ellzy, B. This new sport is growing in popularity at Bensalem High School. The team has won two meets and tied one, a fine showing. However, better things are ex- pected for the future, say Coaches Waters and Benshet- ler. The seniors on the team are Tom Hanrahan, Norm Bogarde, Joe Carruth, and Mike Martin. The boys' enthusiasm was marvelous this year and next year there will be many grunt and groaners returning. Q 4 First row: B. Devlin T. Hanrahan, R. Ellis, W. Whoyer, G. Blackburn, L. Jackson, L. GIRLS' BASKETBALL The girls' team, like the boys', had an outstanding season in 1958. Our Owlettes have lost only one game this season. The senior girls on the team are: Irene Brodisch and Franny Culp. Our league-leading scorer was Toby Brodisch and we're looking for- ward to having her back next year. Next year the girls have high hopes of adding a trophy to our case. They sure came close in '58. ..,r,, FLORENCE MULLER, Coach First row: S. Call, J. Hager, C. Dawidczyk, F. Culp, I. Brodisch, B. The girls worked hard, cheered great, and gave a real lift to our school spirit. We're losing only one senior, Captain Virginia Carter, so we'll have a winning group next year. We think they're tops. One such group of ours is the school newspaper, the Owlmanac. Only last year it was renovated from a almost bi-monthly magazine to the highly efficient news- paper it is today. Manned by some forty reporters, artists, photographers, and businessmen, and ably coached by the two faculty advisors, Miss Mos- lcaluk and Mr. Rudy, the paper rarely loses a hot tip. Also, with Lois Geist as editor-in-chief, and her four capable assistant editors-lrene Brodisch, Pat Hodgens, Maureen Tomlinson, and Mary Henry-the paper has done its best ever and deserves all the support you can give it for next year's staff. Under the capable direction of Mr. Ralph Barclay, it practices every Friday after school, to insure perfection tor its special events. Partial credit for the success of an organization is always given to its officers, and the choir had a superb group this year. They were: President, Norm Bogarde, Vice President, Ursula Kurdt, and Secretary-Treasurer, Len Salandrea. MR. The Council supports all clubs and activities with such fund-raising activities as the annual magazine drive, the school store, and the candy counter.
