“grade room at the opening of school. Fifteen were third graders and fourteen were fourth graders. No change occurred in their enrollment until February when Brenda Hatfield came from Benson west to join the third'grade. This room enjoyed exhibiting at the Douglas County Fair in September. In October this room shared with the kindergarten, first, and second grades in a musical program. The third and fourth gradesgave the operetta, nLucky Star Ranch.n This room was responsible for the November Junior Red Cross art material consisting of centerpieces, place mats, nut cups, menu covers, and favors to be used at various hospitals on Thanksgiving Day. In the Christmas program called nChristmas Around the World,n These pupils represented the French people. This room led the World Clothing Drive in February. The pupils participated in both the Federated Women's Club Art Contest and the one conducted by Miller and Paine in Lincoln. Three first prizes were won by Dale Christiansen, Johnny Mueller, and Arlene Villwok ' Everyone contributed something to the school's Science and Art Fair Eleven oupils entered the fifth grade and ten entered the sixth grade at the beginning of the year No new pupils have enrolled and none have withdrawn from either class During the term they have been on the Junior Safety Patrol The Patrol was guest of Mr Nelson at the picture Ben Hur In the Christmas Program they portrayed nChristmas in Germanyn by costume and song School opened with 29 pupils answering roll call in the seventh and eighth grade room Janet and Marvin McKean moved to Omaha February 19 Their room participated in the 13th All State Elementary School Art Exhibit at the University of Nebraska for the first time Four pieces of soap sculpture were entered in the Ivory National Soap Sculpture Con test Also there was an exhibit entered inthe Federated Women's Club Art Contest where Alberta Gray won a first prize They also helped dec orate for the Athletic Banquet which featured Richie Ashburn The Red Cross was another project that they became most interested in this year They made Christmas centerpieces, favors, and nutcups Drawings, poetry, editorials, stories, and special articles were written and entered in the Jr Red Cross Highlight magazine They were pleased to have at least three entries in the magazine each month The seventh and eighth grade boys took part in basketball The seventh and eighth grade girls and boys represented England in their Christmas program Sheryl Rhoads, Dick Suverkrubbe, Sidney Logemann, and Judy Allmon were the finalists in their spelling contests with Sidney and Judy re presenting Bennington at the Annual Douglas County Spelling Contest Judy won first and then she participated in the Midwest Spelling Bee O l L Q I .
