We then continued our search for our classmates by going to Benn ington where we were approached by a young man we recognized as Clarence Laaker He was selling vegetables on the street in order to make enough money to complete his college education After telling Clarence about the reunion, we noticed that our gas supply was getting low so we drove into the nearest gas station The attendant that came out looked so familiar to us that our curiosity forced us to ask him his name, and to our surprise it was Howard Hansen Howard then took us over to his house where we met his wife Mary and their six children Howard told us that our old classmate, Daryl was now married to Carole and they were living in a trailer in California and that he was sure that they could drive in, since he was a body fender man and had his own business After leaving the gas station, we decided to drive around the town because it had grown quite a bit since we had graduated Turning the corner we saw a used car lot which had a sign that read nTry A1's Stude bakers and you will see how amusing they can be The name nAln brought to our minds an old classmate, Alvin Westphal, who always drove a Stude baker and bragged about them all four years in high school Our talk ran a little over his lunch hour, but he told us that Larry Holmes was Captain of the U S S Forrestal and could very easily fly in Al also told us that a very good place to eat lunch was at the Christens rs Steak House We walked in and noticed that the Christensens were our classmates, Terry and Violet They gave us the best service and sug gested that we have our reunion at their steak house instead of at Will iam's new place, since they had the equipment for such an event After leaving the steak house we went to Bennington High, to see whether any of our teachers of 1960 were st1ll there To our surprlse, seated in the English room was our very close school chum, Lois Mohr Lois told us she was married to 'Dickn Musel who was teaching the mathe matics courses at B H S It was nearing 3 30 and school would soon be out so Lois asked us to stay and have coffee with the teachers 'Dick ed from Europe after a month's shooting for the Disney Studio, and we could contact him at the hilton Hotel which was about six blocks from the school We thanked Lois and 'Dickn for all the information and told them we would see them at the reunlon Wher we arrived at the hotel, we found John seated in the cocktail lounge talking w1th a little man who looked like our superintendent in 1960 Going over to their table and interrupting their conversation, we discovered that this 'little man was R N Nelson Our conversation could have gone on for hours, but we explained to both of them that we still had two more of our classmates to find Leaving the hotel, I saw a car with Iowa license plates, and I told Terry He told me that I was seeing things because he was standing right beside me and didn't see any car I was very determined that the car was that of Janet and James, since Janet wrote to me saying they were living in Iowa Jumping into our car, the chase was on but finally we caught up w1th them at a red light Since it was nearing dinner time, we decided to eat dinner to gether and tell them of our plans Our conversation at the dinner table was very interesting, as we found out that Janet was now a teacher in Iowa Falls and James a mathn teacher and coach Janet was so surprised to hear that Terry was an engineer and that I had my own beauty shop While Janet and I went to the powder room, the men picked up a news paper which had an article on the front page about the new president of Pine College The name of the president was Kenneth Petersen, our old classmate We decided to call and tell him of our plans and surely hoped he could attend the reunion Departing from the cafe and gettlng into our car, we noticed a 1970 Chevy The woman sitting in the car looked at us as though she kn w who we were so we looked at her again and recognized her as Elvera Paasch She agreed to the reunion and said she would see us there The reunion at the steak house was a success, and BVSPYOHB agreed to have another one in 1980 O n 1 . . . . ll ll ' 1 O 0 O : .
