Officers for the 1978-79 school year were: Lori Huck- stadt-President, Randy KrugwVice President, Kristi Siebel-Secretary, Art Ahrens-Treasurer. The council was very active-in February they went bowling and ate at Happy Joe's. They sponsored Mr. Hal Smith from the Youth Challenge. For the first time ever, the council went on an exchange day with Lincoln High, where five students from their school came to Bennett and five council mem- bers went there. The council also spon- sored the Homecoming Dance on December 8, 1978. Student Council-Row l-David Hall-advisor, Art Ahrens, Kristi Siebel, Randy Krug, Lori Huckstadt. In the 1978-79 school year there were tive students who took part in Student Involvement. They were: Sandy Hawkins, Suzy Weih, Roberta Hough, Tina Walls and Jolene Keppy. Student Involvement is set up, so if a teacher needs help in the class- room, helshe tells the principal, he then asks for student volunteers from study hall to help the teachers. Sandy Hawkins, Suzy Weih and Jolene Kept helped Miss Cowherd. Roberta Hougl helped Mrs. Keith. Tina Walls helped Mrs. Paulsen. Librarians Student Librarians were kept busy this year helping Mrs. Walter keep the approximately 15,000 books and thousands of current and back issues of magazines in their proper places. The group took a field trip to Iowa City in April, where they visited the State University of Iowa Library and School of Library Science. They also visited the Iowa City Public Library, Horn Elementary School Library and West High School Library. BOIVIBEFZ The Bomber staff had a busy year in 1978-79, by starting their advertising sales in May, meetings twice a month from 3:30 to 9:30 September thru December and every Wednesday January thru May plus a couple weeks into June to complete the deadlines. Little do people realize how much time and energy it takes to put a year- book like this together. This small group pictured below and often times JUST Editor Carla Wilson, Co-editor Ginny Hawkins and Sandy Hawkins, would spend six hours or more a week putting this book together. Time and energy is also spent selling ads and the '79 book itself. But all-in-all, itls alot of fun putting a book of many memories together, some good and others sad, to look back upon-for ourselves as well as fellow students of BHS. Jeanne Jumps High The Bennett's Girls' Track Team sent a sophomore, Jeanne Hambright, to state track competition at Des Moines on May 18 and 19. Jeanne re- ceived first place in the district meet on May 7, with a jump of 4,10 . Huckstadt Hits 400 An event that will never be forgotten is the night Coach Bill Huckstadt took the Bomberettes to the Muscatine Fieldhouse to defeat the WACO Warriors . . . BUT . . . Thursday, February 15th was not JUST a win for Huck -it was his 400th career victory. Huckstadt never expected to win 400 games. He explains, uno coach everwins 400 or 500 games, his team wins them for him. Below, are the sequence of events that occurred the night of the Athletic and Activities Banquet when Coach Huck- stadt received a special award for his 400 wins. Kevin Ralfs Stuffs It On January 29, 1979, Kevin Ralfs added some extra excite ment to the game against Midland as he went down the court for a slam dunk with S6 seconds left in the second quarter. The crowd roared for nearly a minute as he received a stand- ing ovation. The picture directly below is his dunk and the picture to the right is his teammates reaction to the whole or- deal. . .something to remember!
