The faculty and student body of Bennett High School join the other leaders and members of the community in welcoming Dr. Parmer Ewing as Superintendent of the Buffalo Public School Sys- tem. A hard working, eflicient man, Dr. Ewing brings to his post outstanding administrative abil- ity developed through wide experience in educa- tional pursuits. Born in Casey, Illinois in 1903, Dr. Ewing began his career as an educator in 1923 at Shellbyville, Illinois. In 1930 he received his B.A. in Science at the University of Illinois and by 1934 had obtained his Master of Science. After having successfully discharged his duties in various positions, Dr. Ewing was appointed superintendent of the White Plains, New York schools in 1950. In August, 1953, the Buffalo Board of Education sought someone to assume the responsibilities of Superin- tendant Willis. who had become head of the Chicago School System. Dr. Ewing was an admir- able choice. This easily-smiling, friendly man of good judg- ment is widely known for his administrative re- forms. Most of us remember, no doubt, the open meeting on the school budget earlier this year, to which our parents, teachers and oiiice staff were invited Besides his belief in public participation in school enterprises D Ewing also maintains that the school should take part in the city wide policies as exempli fied by the recent meetings of principals on common prob lems The amiable Dr Ewing also leads a vigorous life commo dious to the community He has worked with the Scouts Rotary Clubs and many othei civic organizations History and woodwork are the two favorite hobbies of this per ceptive man Again Dr Ewing we ex tend to you our heartfelt wel come and take this opportu nity to pledge our cooperation We hope your career in Buf falo will be a happy and suc cessful one DR PARWILR I FWIING , r. , ' i ' . . , . . , .
