»! Named IN - Hi ' line (( lYcsulenl fSl ' Oit The big news at Bennett College is the arrival of a new president. Dr. Gloria Dean Randle Scott became the school ' s eleventh president on the first of July 1987. For the second time in its 113 year history the school has chosen a woman president. The announcement was made in March of 1987 by Robert S. Chiles, Sr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the presidential search committee. The new president is guided by an old adage: Give a hungry man a fish and he ' s full for a day; teach him to fish and he ' ll be full the rest of his life. After being up for a presidential position at five colleges previously, the feeling wasn ' t right. Scott says Bennett felt right . Being president at Bennett provides her with the opportunity to pursue a dual passion, academics and the advancement of her sisters. Scott also says that I consider myself instrumental in promoting women and helping them go back to school as I was helped by other women. For Scott, things began to move full speed ahead; as she began to make plans for improvements and changes. Some of the improvements Scott would like to see is an enrollment increase from 700 to 1000 in the next five years. She feels that a stable student body population would stabilize the budget. Scott ' s other goals for the college include computerizing the campus, improving campus facilities, increasing the number of students attending graduate school, escalating student involvement, en- hancing alumnae relations, and much more. Scott plans to give all her time and energy to guarantee that Bennett College honors its legacy and builds a unique future. id, '
