FOREWORD r Time, that often fleeting but sometimes stationary- aspect of life, cannot be captured nor held for long. The days that seem to go so slowly when studies and books are at hand, soon race along when graduation days approach. Time assumes an even greater importance this year in the histon- of Bennett College. With the opening of the 1965-66 school year, Bennett saw the enrollment of its first Merit Scholars, the opening of a Programed Learning Laboratory-, the inception of a Dean ' s List, the initiation of a Non- Western Studies Program, and many other things which enriched our college community-. Time is not to be grasped and held but to be made rich with memories, dreams, and fulfillment. The members of the Bennett Belle staff hope to recapture some of the memories, dreams, and fulfillment of this 1965-66 school vear. We express humbly our apologies for any omissions or errors found within, bearing in mind the fact that although perfection is our aim it is often impossible to attain.

In 1826, under the leadership of David D. Jones, a re- sidential college for women was created from the historic fabric of a co-educational institution founded in 1873. The college achieved the A rating from the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools at a very early period in its history. The college has gained national recognition, holding membership in the American Associa- tion of Collegiate Registrars andAdmissions Officers, the Association of American Colleges and the National Com- mission on Accrediting. Bennett College is repeatedly referred to as a campus of singular quality. The buildings, flanking the chapel in a quadrangular fashion, form a setting of relaxed beauty in the spring, and of stalwart dignity in the fall and winter. The entire campus leads itself to the perpetuation of an atmosphere of culture and refinement which is our her- itage.
